I change my outfit maybe once a week, unless it's been hot or I've had reason to sweat a lot. Changing clothing every day seems like such a waste of time and money (water, electricity and unnecessary sets of clothes). I barely pay attention to someone's outfit, so you can imagine how little I care about whether someone wears the same sweater three days in a row. I've never been able to understand why some people obsess over this.Matthew Jabour said:(ignoring laundry;...)
Pretty sure the statement "only women notice these things" reinforces his point, not renders it moot.Matthew Jabour said:In Australia, a male news anchor wore the same suit on air every day for a year, and nobody noticed. He did this to make a statement about sexism, the idea being that a woman wouldn't be able to get away with that. This has prompted backlash from some, saying that only women notice these things to begin with, making the point about sexism moot. But it got me to thinking. Could you feasibly wear the same outfit every day (ignoring laundry; let's just say you have a bunch of identical outfits) without anyone noticing? If not, then why? Wait, what? Why? Is this really a thing? People get worked up if they think they repeat outfits? That's not some silly cliche that only cartoon fashions engage in?Colour Scientist said:Definitely not.
I feel self-conscious if I wear the same outfit more than once in the same week.
I don't get worked up, I just, you know, change my clothes.Saetha said:Yeah, 'course I could.

I... this genuinely baffles me. I've never worried that people will judge me for wearing same-y outfits. I've never even thought about it. I've considered that maybe people will judge for wearing "plain" or "easy" outfits, but hey, screw 'em, at least I'm comfortable.
Like, seriously, this is something people have to worry about? This is something women have to worry about? Did I just not get my "How to be Oppressed by Society" pamphlet as a little girl or something?
