What are your thoughts on country music?

Personally, i hate it. some songs are okay, but the majority of it is annoying.

I bloody love Johnny Cash. Can't beat a bit of the man in black. Don't really like too much other country but there's just something that bit special about Cash's songs.

my personal opinion is that Country is one of the few musical genres that require skill. Some rock, but not all, is really screaming about how your car got impunded. And Rap... May that "soldja idiot" or whatever his name is die by being eaten. All it requires is being able to swear and ryme with made-up words.

well to me all country songs are pretty much about the same thing.

? My dog died
? A long country road
? My car broke down
? I'm drunk
? My girlfriend left me.

I can dig country music most of the time, especially the newer stuff. BUT...I get pissed every time I hear a remake on the country channel. It seems like that is actually what they are best at...ripping off other artists.

Don't care for it except for artists on its periphery - bluegrass, Ozark Mountain Dardevils, and David Allen Coe who wrote the perfect country-western song:

I was drunk the day my ma got out of prison.
And I went to pick her up in the rain.
But before I could get to the station in my pickup truck,
She got runned over by a damned ol' train.

As long as it's real country music I love it. But i hate this new country music that consists of just pop songs with a country twang in the vocal delivery... just total shit.

Examples of real country music:

Woody Guthrie
Gram Parsons
Hank Williams (the old dead guy, not the fat fucker with the beard)
Cash
David Allen Coe
Charley Pride
Bob Wills
Patsy Kline
etc. etc.

also like country rock and alternative country:

Gram Parsons
Whiskeytown
Band of Horses
Bright Eyes
Cat Power
Shearwater
Jenny Lewis
etc.

I like most country music, from Hank to the newer stuff. Though I really listen to anything really....but rap or hip hop *shudders* depends on my mood I guess. I got Garth Brooks playing right now for example.

Old country music was very, very good stuff. The new rock-style shit that emerged in the 70s is an atrocity to my ears.

Modern pop country artists like Garth Brooks and god knows who else are laughably awful. Somebody teach these people how to use a metaphor. It seems like most bad country songs on the radio have lyrics that read like a melodramatic teenage journal entry consisting of literal explanations of actions set in obvious and almost child like rhym structures.

hmm, I don't know what it is but over here your American country music is so uncool that it's actually cool to like it, so loads of people do dolly parton, Conway twitty etc and everyone on earth loves Johnny Cash.

here in England, 'ere in ther wes' country likes isz from iz the law to like thiz baand called The Wurzels which is liiike rrr ****'ry musac, sorry I'll stop, their official genre is 'Scrumpy and Western' seen them 3 times now only trouble is everywhere they play the price of cyder (hard cider for the yanks) seems to double that night.
