I second this answer and note that the scene from Spaceballs is 100% accurate to Lucas and Star Wars, just replace Yogurt and it's basically word for word.
This is a story of love and loss, fathers and sons, and the foresight to retain international merchandising rights. This is the story of Star Wars.
Lucas had been doing it for decades, Disney is just trying to make up for lost time.
