I think vs thread are pointless and annoying.

Technically, you could say everything ripped off pong...

CRASH! AH AH saviour of the universe. I like him more than Mario but the games have their similarities and differences.

I don't think this is really a vs. thread. He's actually asking whether we think Crash Bandicoot is a Mario rip-off.

Maybe, it had a lot of features that you would find in the side-scrollers (hitting boxes with your head, platforming, boxes that blow stuff up), but it also did a lot of original things. Overall, I don't think they would have made the game the way it was if Mario had never been released, but it's not a total rip-off.

The Title confused me.

If anything Crash is a copy off of Sonic. Crash was a bandicoot that was turned into a huminoid by Dr Nitro I believe his name was, along with the rest of the island he was on. They were all meant to be slaves in his army. Seems strikingly similar to Sonic the hedgehog to me.

I don't think Crash is a Mario rip-off. It's not like every platform-character is a rip-off off Mario.
Besides, Crash has alot of effects from his games that seperates him from Mario from the start. An example would be that the Crash-games where presenting crazy bosses, with different ways to defeat each, while Marios bosses was still stale and much the same.
