Is it me or is creativity dead in video games.
Is their virus that goes around killing new ideas for games.
All the newest games seem to get more and more bland now or are sequels. (Arkham asylum looks cool but that doesn't count and I havent played it yet.)

I wish to find another game like Eternal Darknes

I think the real reason games seem less creative is because a lot of it has been done already. Gaming is no longer such a fresh medium.

But I agree that there seems to be an abundance of some games like gritty FPS games.

I think you're being a bit harsh, and you're only judging mainstream titles. Honestly, if you dive deep enough into the market, you'll find the odd masterpiece here and there.

The creativity virus is called Committee. As soon as you reduce games to accounting figures, the fun is leeched out of them and set on fire.

This individual's learnings speak truth on the matter.
Sure gaming is a fuckload of ones and zeros, but those are the only numbers that should matter in the production of the game.

Indie games will never, ever stop being creative. Creative mainstream titles come and go, just not as frequently.

Dont think there is a limit on creativity, there is only a limit on the people with the Sheer amount of balls needed to do a creative game.

Creativity isn't dead, only on the ground after bungie kicked it in the balls and teabagged it.

It still has it's moments, The path for example, it's just these type of games aren't mainstream enough to sneak into the public eye. Story seems to be the new thing now, with games like bioshock and Fallout using the medium of FPS to tell a story.

the reason that there are fewer original games is because fewer people buy leftfield games, like Okami or Killer 7. both brilliant, both sold pretty badly.
it's the same with everything; there are fewer inventive movies because michael bay will always do better than darren aronofsky at the box office, and there's less inventive music because Bob Dylan never had a number 1 in the Uk whereas Westife had 5 in a row.
the virus: the public

It mostly is.
There are a few creative gems every now and then, but the relation between those and the usual generic games has shifted dramatically in my opinion.

Creativity isn't dead, corporations just fund the same bland ideas because they now they'll work rather than taking a risk.

I consider Eternal Darkness one of the most creative games because of the Sanity effects, the Story and its magic system.

The magic in that game was the best of any game ive ever played.

No its not dead yet. There are a lot of games that aren't creative but you just have to look through the clones for a little while to find one that is. There still are some creative games out there.

There are tons of new, innovative games.

Just wait for a new Valve game to come out, it will blow your socks off in it's epic newness.

I hate to break this to you, but creative games don't sell. People prefer to buy games that are within their 'comfort zones' (especially when it can cost £45 for a new game).
