Transgender already has a strong definition within real sexuality and I dont think its right to pollute that term with other conotations that may or may not apply to transgendered individuals.
I can honestly say this hadn't even occurred to me. I started with Cross-Dressing in the title but switched to Transgendered in the poll question largely because I wasn't sure what to call it exactly; these two terms were just the closest to what I meant.
Your word is cool though. If it had a wider usage and I knew of it, I would most likely had used it instead.

Anyway, hope everyone knows I mean no disrespect with my poor usage. I don't think this rises to the level of needing to edit the post, but if anyone thinks differently give me a PM and consider it done.
Nah, it's pretty fine. I am mostly annoyed that no alternative exists for me. Being a transsexual woman I am by definition a transgendered gamer. Having played games seriously for most of my lives, being born with a penis and now having a C-cup. XD
In which case, you should choose the option based on your true gender, a woman. If you play as a man, then, yes, you're a cross-dressing gamer :)

When there's an opportunity, I always choose to play as female, assuming it's not like Borderlands where the player character's abilities are determined by which one you pick.

I have a lot of games where you can only play as a man, so this is a way to balance it out.

Does playing as female characters in fighting games count? (Can?t go wrong with Chun-Li)

If not, then no. To be honest, I haven?t played that many RPGs, and whenever I am given a choice to create an avatar, I just oh-so-imaginatively make one that looks the most like me.

The way I see it, I'm playing as a male character in real life. So when given the choice, I'll usually pick female. More for the sake of variety than anything else.

I flip-flop when choosing what gender I play in games.

I the case roleplayiing a character in a rpg like new vegas I pick what ever fits the backstory better for I give the character I am playing. If one gender is used for more then a few character in row then make a backstory that work with the opposite gender to the one I was play before.

Although it's funny to help/screw over the Legion in New Vegas when playing as a female because of how anti-female they are. Feels like poetic justice. >:3
I agree
there is something fun about killing caesar and legion in his own camp just prove how strong you are when they do not allow you to fight in there area because all females are too weak to fight by their standards.
I have yet to play a pro-legion character of either gender.

I have to say, in recent years I've gone from mainly playing as male characters to mainly as female characters when I get the chance. It's just grown on me.

I tend to play female characters because their armor tends to look nicer.

Perhaps trans-sexed/trans-sex gaming is a more accurate term in this case? To the best of my knowledge that isn't a term used elsewhere.

I've been choosing primarily female avatars when given the choice in games after an experience with my Draenei shaman in WoW several years ago. I was just walking around Stormwind City one day and realized how comically oversized the shoulder armor was. It bothered me to the point I recustomized my character as female. After that it just kinda stuck.

I'm a guy, and I might play a female character on occasion with games that offer character creation, but the overwhelming majority will be male characters. So I'd have to answer "no" to your poll, alas.

Yep, I tend to play female characters whenever I have a choice. Just because. No real reason, except I think that female characters, if strong and independent, are much more interesting than male ones. I always tend to use female protagonists in my own writing, for example, despite being male myself. When it comes to games, I like to provide in my head a sort of female role-play, just imagining the character's own thoughts or whatever during the game.

Right now, I'm using a female character in Pokémon Platinum and in The Secret World, I've also used a female character in Halo Reach and ODST and in Oblivion and Fallout 3...

I've been playing female characters exclusively since the first time I played Fallout 3 so 2009ish, the reason for me is kinda... personal...
Short version: I was born a male but have always identified closer to a lady, and have spent half my life trying to identify my gender proper. I don't really want to go into too much more detail in a public forum, this is something I don't even really like discussing with people I know personally.

Anyway, many people who have difficulty identifying their gender or have wrestled with their gender identity find playing as other sexes in video games as a sort of therapeutic experience, it's a very easy way to metaphorically "try on the skin" of another gender in a risk free environment, especially for people who are nervous or uncomfortable with real world crossdressing (disclaimer: I am by no means saying that playing as a lady in Dragon Age is in any way shape or form a substitute for gender counselling, I am not a licensed therapist and do not pretend to be otherwise).

So yeah this is something that helps me, and allot of other people like me, to "work out our gender shit," as it where.

Well I tend to flip-flop, because I usually conceptualize the characters I play as characters in their own right so in principle sex does not matter. Despite that, though, I usually played as a male and me playing female characters has only emerged comparably recently (last ~5-6 years) in games where it doesn't really matter so much because I want to spice up things a bit.

And because I actually cared a little bit I summed up my characters from RPGs I recently(-ish) played in order from first to latest character:

* Dark Souls: Male Hunter
* Skyrim: Male Nord Assassin, Female High Elf Mage, Female Argonian Warrior
* Oblivion: Male Redguard Warrior, Male Kahjiit Battlemage, Female Chuhrai[footnote]A modded-in race[/footnote] Monk
* The Old Republic: Male Evil Blue Guy Agent, Male Good Human Sith
* Fallout NV: Female Sniper
* Dragon Age: Male Melee Thief, Male Bloodmage
* Mass Effect: played both a male infiltrator and a female sentinel

Which are in total 14 characters of which 5 are female which constitutes a share of about 36%.

I would chose to play the opposite when it offers a different lens on the game, ie other characters react differently, or if I have a certain character in mind. But I can say that a good 80% of the time I usually play as a character the same gender as mine.

Depends, often on the clothing options. I play Saints row 4 as a guy because I can play as magical girl snake plissken for a good time. Otherwise, It's just based on my mood.

Well, when given the option, I tend to flip-flop back and forth depending on the game in question... where the only think I keep consistent is skin color, which is always black because it's rare for the games I play to have characters with that specific skin color...

Other than that, I only gamed in women's underwear only once or twice... Sure, it was some time ago and it was one of my mom's bra and panty sets, but I can't say I regretted getting caught in the process...
