Poll: Custom Controller Layouts

Whatever happened to custom controller layouts? The last time I remember being able to go in and change the assignment of every button was for TimeSplitters: Future Perfect on the Gamecube. I look at other FPS games and I can't help but frown when I don't see the option to change button actions. What do you mean I can't have the reload button be right next to fire so I can reload while turning (thank you, Halo 3).

Plus it was always fun to completely screw up the controller schemes before handing the controller off to your friend.

It's worse with games on the PC; the gamepad option often fails to take into account the fact that `Button 1' on one controller may not be in the same place on another controller...

I'd like the function back. Usually it's two or three buttons that are out of place to my muscle-memory-induced presses, and there is no way to change them without selecting a different predetermined control set that has the same problem.

I'm a member of the PC gaming master race[footnote]this joke is getting kind of old.[/footnote] quite exclusively a PC gamer (never even owned any consoles) so I take the option to customize controls, as an obvious standard. I really think that you should be able to customize your controller layout, as well. Absolutely.
