speaking as a second year emergency planning student (seriously this shit is my passion, my hobby and my job roled into one) you are discussing something whihc has been a debate for a while now; are there more disasters/emeregncies occuring nowadays or are our montioring/warning systems simple improved to the point where we notice them more?I am 2 cool 4 anime said:

Yeah, that's why the Ancient Mayans lived in South America and built pyramids. :/ Besides Japan deals with earthquakes on an almost daily basis because they are on the rim of something called the "Ring of Fire", there the earth's plates move constantly and when they impact upon each other the resulting shockwaves cause earthquakes. Remember the Y2K scare? Did anything catastrophic happen? No. So I doubt 12 years later the world is just going to explode because the Ancient Mayans ran out of space on their giant rock to put the next years' events in there.

I cant remember where I read it now but some scientist said the reason for the increased number of earthquakes etc at this moment in time is due to some kinda magnetic alignment of the earth to some or rather....i read it a while back now...
Either way the jist of it was expect there to be more frequent natural disasters that what we would normally endure

Unless some nutjobs decide to MAKE it happen and steal a bunch of nukes and blow us all to pieces as a self-fulfilling prophecy. And then I will be mad. VERY mad.
Personally, on december 12 (the day it's supposed to go down), I will be staying home if at all possible. Not for fear of the apocalypse. For fear of running into lunatic nutjobs loose on the street causing mayhem.
