I have started keeping tabs on Dante's Inferno lately, and it has so far struck me as a pretty awesome game. I am pretty sure the guys over at Visceral Games are taking some creative license on the poem, but what game company doesnt? The combat looks visceral, if a bit like god of war (but really, what third person game foucusing on melee combat and blood DOESNT copy GoW anymore?), and it will me cool to see just what they do with the poem. my only thing is that from the gameplay trailers and dev diaries, this game looks to me like it is definitly heading towards an AO rating by the ESRB. this doesnt really concern me now that i am over 18, but i know some people who are under age and with parents who wont buy it for them if it gets the AO..

So what do you think, of the game, its prospects, and possible rating?

Not that interested in it. If it turns out good, I'll take a look.

And no.
No it will not be cool to see what they do with the poem.
Because you know what they call that?
Rape.
That is what they call that.
This, specifically about Dante's Inferno.
And nowadays, I have no expectations for games. Except for a select few.

If there is one medium that poetry should never directly cross over to is gaming.
Has it ever been done before? But no, I can't see poetry making a good game.

Could be good if I ignore the poem while playing, but if I constantly compare it'll probably suck for me.

Probably. Looks like God of War but with a different theme.

But still... Meh! At first I was interested but then I saw that it was console only.

If it remakes the God of War style and polish on the 360, I'll be happy.

I think there's still plenty of room in that genre.

I never liked god of war, so I won't like any game that copies it, regardless of its use of latin catchphrases.

the question is will it get an AO rating? lol, absolutely not

If it even looks like the ESRB won't give it an M rating, they'll change it for an M rating. You can't make a big budget game with an AO rating. Once you hit an AO rating, you can pretty much only sell it online. And that won't sell enough to even make up the costs.

It's GoW in everything except for the fact that instead of kinda ripping off Ancient Greek mythos, their raping the poem. I might play it, just to see how they manage some of the levels. Although, it does rather mean there's only one option for the final boss...Guess who! (Although they get bonus points if they do a Brutus-Judas-Cassius thing inside Lucifer's mouth, but fat chance of that

I kinda like the look of the game, it's like GoD...BUT IN HELL, which is bad ass.

Not having they are basing it on the poem, they could have instead it is heavily inspired, but totally raping the story of Dante entering peacefully, the point of the story was to make him not want to die!

Not to find his love, who is only in the 3rd part and an angel, kinda...

No. AO rated games aren't sold in normal stores and thus don't get many sales. Making a big budget game like this AO would be a financial disaster.

Thi-- I concur.

Does anyone actually care about this game?
I only heard about it after the staged protest, and stopped caring after hearing about the staged protest.

Did I just stumble into a room full of wannabe English PhD's or some shit? It's just a game. If I decided to make a game about Robert Frost's "Road Less Traveled", would that be "raping" the poem as well? As long as the game is withing it's legal boundaries it's fine, and constant bitching isn't going to get anywhere. Play the game when it comes out, see if it sucks, then ***** away.

It won't get an AO rating, even if they want to rate it that EA won't let that happen. They'll delay it and dumb the content down. Anything to make more money.

As for my expectations I really hope its a good game. I am skeptical of course, but the Divine Comedy is one of the most amazing pieces of literature I have ever read. And judging on what i've seen so far I honestly think the game could have a chance at creating some of that atmosphere. However anyone who has read the divine comedy and is expecting the game to invoke the same emotions is a fool and will be greatly disappointed, just look for a pretty good mythology action game to keep you mildly entertained.
