so i just recently picked up darksiders (i had pre-ordered it) and i must say it is amazing. I've played for two days so far and am in love.
so here's the story thus far I've put a spoiler if you want to see for yourself. i don't really know if it's a spoiler but I've put the option anyways.
length:
before i start i'll let you know i am playing on the hardest level and doesn't know how that effects the game
so my save time says I've been playing for six hours and guess what i only just beat the first boss. there are four AND THEN YOU STILL GOT TO FIGHT THE MAIN BADDY!! that is unless more twists keep the game going longer. this game is immense. I'll give you an example. on my way to fight the bat queen (that's the first boss) in the twilight cathedral i needed to find a sword to put in the statue so blah, blah, blah. that's not important. what ended up happening is there was a side objective i needed to do in order to finish that objective, then there was a side objective to do in order to finish the side objective and so on and so forth. by the time i actually got the sword i had forgot that that was what i was after in the first place and (don't tell anyone but) i kinda forgot how to get back to the place where i needed to put that sword and was lost for a minute. and despite all that running around and backtracking i wanted to keep on going. there was so much to do and the best part was it was entertaining! there is so much to explore and discover i kept asking myself what's next.
game devices:
this game is just a big ol' bag of awesome. there is no game device I've encountered that doesn't' get used. and they teach you how to use them effortlessly. you learn in steps without even realizing you were taught. at one point your discovering that certain bombs explode with fire (i.e. a tutorial stage) and next thing you know your in a fast paced situation where there's a bomb, a baddy and a torch light on a wall and without even thinking abut it you're already like "i know what to do". whether it's figuring out which wall fixtures you can climb on or collecting souls as currency there is always something to do. plus any game that can integrate a tutorial without it being obvious needs to have at least that point be noteworthy.
weapons:
the main weapon you get is your sword but since i pre-ordered the game i also got the code for unlocking THE GRIM REAPER'S FUCKING SCYTHE! and now i feel sorry for all those who will never get to experience that weapon because it is made of complete badass. i love using my sword for a one on one beatdown but nothing says p'wnd like whipping around your scythe in a windmill fashion destroying all the unlucky foes who surround you. i've also recently acquired the shuriken weapon that can lock onto five enemies at once and hit them all. the cool thing about the weapons are you can buy upgrades and new attacks from the demon merchant Vulgrim by trading him souls. i bought an attack that pretty much turns my sword into a baseball bat to swat away demons in a charged up swing.you also have your wrath ability that lets you use a special power. the one i have now erupts swords out of the ground to pierce enemies around you. there are two different ones (so far) that you can buy from vulgrim. one of stoneskin that boosts your defenses and attacks. and one of immolation that bursts your enemies around you into flames. you can also add these runes to your weapons to also juice them up. i have a rune that makes one of my weapons stronger, one that makes environmental objects do more damage or one that replenishes wrath over time and i can't wait on what's to come
enemies:
one of my favorite things about this game is there are tons of enemies. whether it is a demon bat, a rouge angel or a zombie remain of a poor, poor human there is always something to slaughter in this game. one thing that makes combat so fun, besides unloading all your new attacks on their faces, is that each type of enemy has their own finishing move, if you weaken them enough. and for the most part every finisher is awesome. like for instance grabbing a zombie by their legs and slamming them into the ground into a a red puddle. or ripping off the head of a really annoying acid spitter demon. now one thing is that some of them kinda get boring after you've seen them a hundred times but the really entertaining ones will always stay classic, like ripping off the head of a spitter demon. cool thing is depending on how you choose to kill an enemy like using the finisher or just beating them to death will depict what goodies come out of them. every enemy you kill reaps the reward of souls. the three types are blue-currency, yellow-wrath and green-life. need some wrath or life certain enemies give it if you use a finisher. just want to get as much money to buy that attack you've been eyeballing then just beat them to death.
so that's what i have to say. i really love this game and cannot get enough... it pains me to take time away from it to write this review. i highly recommend it especially if you've been tired of paying full price for a game you can beat in one sitting. if you like blood, badassness and some good fun GET THIS GAME. the story is intriguing, the game is fun, ya fun remember that? and I've been playing for a long time and it hasn't ended yet in disappointment...like so many other games have. bottom line i feel my money was spent well and not like i just raped my wallet.
if there is a question you have or think there is something i missed in the review post it and I'll answer best to my abilities. thanks
oh and by the way kill the crows, their full of life
so here's the story thus far I've put a spoiler if you want to see for yourself. i don't really know if it's a spoiler but I've put the option anyways.
you play War one of the four horseman of the apocalypse who has been set up for bringing the apocalypse too early to the third kingdom (that's us, humans). so after being stripped of your powers and almost killed by your boss, the charred council, you get a second chance to prove you've been set up and make things right again. since the battle between all three kingdoms (heaven, hell and man) has happened too early there is no rapture to punish the wicked and save the good. SO ALL HUMANS ARE DEAD! thus disrupting the balance allowing the destroyer's armies to rule. the destroyer by the way is the true mastermind behind this whole mess. so ya, that's where you begin. back on earth after a century, as a shell of your former self.
