So, I just read a lot about darksiders after being interested for a little while (i heard a lot of adverts because it sponsors stargate on tv), and I have noticed a few things.

Basically, it is God of War for one. A lot of people have already said this, and various reviewers have tried to give it its own credit, but failed.

What annoys me most about the game is the soul system:

Blue souls = currency
Yellow souls = rage meter
Green souls = health

Gain orbs by killing shit.

Every single review I have read has called this system "unique" and "innovative" in its design.

Am I the only one who has played God of War!? This system is identical, bar the colours, to God of War. Then, the next "unique" feature mentioned is always the fact that you can upgrade stuff with currency orbs during the game by pausing and going to a certain menu.

The God of War clone-li-ness doesn't end there, but what gets me most is that people seem oblivious to it.

Anyone else have anything they REALLY hate about the marketing of darksiders?

I really hate it when someone calls something a clone because its in the same genre.

If your going to call the orb thing being copied,God of war coped that from DMC.

What about the fighting?
Is that the same.
If not maybe that's what the reviewers are talking about.
Yeah - to fight, hit buttons. Combos include hitting two buttons alternately, hitting three buttons at the same time or mashing one button repeatedly.

Same as GOW again, unfortunately.

Etc etc. Thumbs up dude.

I might be getting it later, and I've not played God of War, so I won't have this problem. :D

You really cant be that petty about game mechanics in this day and age, if it ain't broke don't fix it.

It's like me screaming at every platform game for copying jumping from the Donkey Kong (or even before then).

Didn't know that, but it's besides the point - the reviewers of darksiders seem oblivious to the fact that it is copied. They are treating it as a new found thing in gameplay, and that annoys me.

Plus, I'm not calling it a clone because it is in the same genre. I am calling it a clone because it is a clone. I have played GOW to death, and this game is near identical in gameplay features, combat, character interaction and mechanics, with little extra ideas/content.

I would go through all of it to prove my point - I am not being called a "clone" shouter because people think I am just spouting, but do you really want me to go through everything that is the same?

I have real reasons for calling it a clone, I am not just saying things for the hell of it.

If it ain't broke don't fix it is becoming an annoying excuse for developers.

I agree that sometimes, with certain mechanics/ideas, there really is no better that you can do.
For me, it's when a developer calls in this phrase as an excuse to not come up with their own ideas that it gets cheap.

For example: in darksiders, the soul system again. It has been used, according to posters here, in many many games before it. What's bad here is that it isn't just completely unchanged, they are marketing it as new, and people are buying it. This system reeks of overuse. Yet here it is, cloned. Again. How hard can it be to think up a new upgrade system for weapons/character/abilities and such?

Maybe the reviews are trying to not call it a clone, maybe they are trying to drop the phrase.

The reason why they have the same features is because they the same genre.

you said near identical which is not a clone,a clone is identical in every way.
Hell if were gonna call Darksiders a clone of God of war,we might as well call every hack and slasher a clone of golden axe.

And not even in the same genre.

I guess God of War copied off of Jak and Daxter. :p

What? I think you mean Dante's Inferno is a God of War Rip-off. Darksiders is more like Zelda if anything. Did you just mix those two up or are you plain retarded?

as much as it looks like GoW or DmC, darksiders is still the ONLY game that have convinced me into buying a console...

I think one shouldn't call anything a clone (like the whole Dante's Inferno/GoW debacle) but if what he says is true, reviewers definitely should not be touting this as a unique feature. It's about as common as they come.

Might as well point out that Bayonetta is an inferior Devil May Cry clone if we're really gonna do this.

Agree with all of the above.
