So a few days ago a Dead Space 2 trailer came out giving us our first glimpse of what Visceral Games (previously known as EA Redwood Shores) has to offer us this time around.

Here's the trailer in case you missed it:

Issac Clarke is back and his time he has bought with him a personality so we may find it easier for us to project onto him. In an article I have here from a 360 magazine it states "three years of soul searching has seen him discover an attitude", so we may see Issac with a gruff Marcus Fenix-style attitude, but what did we expect with all the shit that happened to him back on the Ishimura?

Issac's new suit not only looks cool but has a new function: "Each of his new helmets is made of collapsible mechanical plates which can fold away, letting him talk with NPC's found in the Sprawl". This means more interaction and communication with people before the necromorphs tear them apart.

With a new setting, new enemies and a new suit, you can expect a fresh, but still familar atmosphere of dread.

So, opinions? Impressions? Worth buying or not?

I should really get the first one. I'm all for more good survival horror games, so I hope that Dead Space 2 ends up being a good game.

In the first game, Issac actually did have a personality; the trouble was, it was only expressed in his personal journal (alongside the objectives, if I recall correctly) so most people never saw it. Basically he was scared shitless, like anyone would be in his situation, but found the fortitude to keep trudging on.

It'll be nice to hear him talk in the second one, though. Let's hope they stay away from the Marcus Fenix route- all the empathy of a rock formation and half the facial expressiveness- and show us an ordinary man who's been stretched to the breaking point by all he's been through. I mean, the poor guy was a glorified maintenence man until he set foot above the Ishimura.

[small]Sorry, Hammond, the U.S.G. Ishimura. Forgive me for my impertenence. Oh, wait, you're dead.[/small]

GRAY FOX! Seriously, he reminds of Gray Fox.

I'm glad to see the return of the 'One gun' (Read it in a magazine), and I hope it'll be a better experience than DS1. Don't get me wrong, it was and still is a good game, it just had a slow parts, and blah moments.

Wow, I couldn't disagree more man, I loved Dead Space.

It scared me silly and I thought the dismemberment mechanics were really fun and clever. The whole vibe of the Ishimura was so claustrophobic and tense and creepy...

Plus it was by far the best looking game on the 360 at the time.

OT:

Can't wait, gonna be a day 1 purchase for me.

Dead Space started being scary pee-ka-boo terror, which was good for a few shocks, but after a while, I expected some variery, still, it was a sweet 2 hour survival horror game, and an awesome 8 hour action third person shooter.
I never pre order games unless I know it's not gonna be a huge disappoin (e.g. Left 4 Dead 2), so I'll wait for a couple of reviews to surface.

Regarding Isaac being as relate-able as a kitchen table (a dull one at that), I actually liked that aspect of the game, and would've liked it even more if the game had left all interaction with the baddies behind. In a necromorph filled station, you don't have time for monologues and sarcastic puns, so you'd kinda get the feeling that all Isaac cares about is making it past the situation.

I've played through it 3 times and there are still bits that freak me out. Mainly the indestructable guys (and that stupid meteor section, but for the wrong reasons)

The invincible necromorph is always pretty freaky and the mass driver sections tend to piss off alot of people. Necromorphs in general still scare the shit out of me even though I can destroy then in one shot with all my upgraded weapons. I guess Necromorphs are the perfect nightmare.

I played the 360 demo after I finished it twice on PC and I died because of the messed up controls. Acquired taste maybe?

I was underwhelmed. The only scary part was the opening where you were defenseless. After that I Was literally tripping over ammo. They gave me so much of it I had to throw ammo for weapons I didn't have on me away because I had too fucking much. The enemy designs weren't scary and the S.S. Fallsapart was just annoying GO HERE, GO HERE NOW. NO GO BACK TO WHERE YOU WERE. But honestly I was all for giving the game a fair shot until it pulled the bullshit nemesis wannabe who unlike the nemesis could not be defeated for goodies. Tossing a literally invincible enemy at me is something that usually causes me to hate a game pretty fast because I find it stupid. Make them hard to kill, make them difficult and ridiculously strong, just for fucks sake don't make them completely immortal. It's not scary and it's not fun, it's just annoying and tedious. But anyway, the plot was predicable and the plot twist wasn't very interesting and I'm not up to more time stopping and physics puzzles. One thing I will say I really liked about the game were the segments where you went into space, those were cool.
Well, I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree!

I dind't mind the invincible dudes too much because there was always a way to kill them after they chased you for a bit, it added a lot of tension for me running away from them while being swarmed by smaller necromorphs.

I'll agree the story wasn't all that spectacular... when are we ever going to get away from cults in games? It's such a lazy fucking plot device.

From what I read in an article about the basics of the storyline in Dead Space 2: Isaac is called onto a a large space station rather than a ship like in the first game, (which means that areas will most likely be larger, and more varied), the affects of the marker from the first game has affected Isaac's mind, so there could possibly be visions or freak out moments in store.

Interestingly the intro level of the game is set in a hospital(possibly for psychiatric help) before events happen to set him up as an "adviser" to the outbreak of necromorphs on the space station due to the fact that he's the only one to encounter the necromorphs and survive.

You're right about that:

"The place is the Sprawl, a long-established mining colony built on the rings of Saturn that's now a busting metropolis and popular spaceport."

It's nice to see Dead Space in a new setting, unlike having Batman returning to Arkham Asylum for a second game in the exact same place.

Am I the only one who's noticed the Necromorph that's wearing Isaac's old suit? I wonder what the deal is with that. Also, why does Isaac look completely different in II compared to one? In one he was almost middle aged and balding. Here he looks like he's in his mid twenties. How does that work?

It was a death scence from the first game when Issac gets his head knocked off and one of those annoying little tenticle-skull things slips in and makes off with his body. It's truly horrifying. Watch it on Youtube an you'll understand.

I greatly enjoyed the first one, though it was not without flaws. Namely the atmosphere wasn't overly creepy and it dragged out the physics based puzzles for too long. Hopefully these faults will be fixed in Dead Space 2 and even if they aren't I'll probably still play it.

Here's hoping they make the dismemberment even more fun then it was in the first.

I'll rent it just like last time. The think i didn't get was the he was a engineer yet he was more like a space marine.
