I enjoy watching it. It is more or less a cash in on the whole who would win concept that's been on the internet for a few years. But it's fun and watching the recreated battle at the end is always a highlight. The Yakuza vs. Mafia battle was pretty epic.

Kicking this topic back up.

Season 1 has ended with the IRA (Irish Republic Army) blowing up the Taliban and then turning into a anti-landmine PSA. Thoughts?

That show is total bull-shit. Especially in the Yakuza VS Mafia episode. If it came down to hand-to-hand combat the Yakuza would wreck a Mafia guy any day because of the shear amount of training they went through. But all the Mafia guy did was pull out an ice pick and stab him a couple of times.

It's probably the most accurate thing we can get outside of a real battle. Too bad the opponents are so thickheaded.

Loved how Shaka Zulu shanked himself on a claymore. I always thought that was pretty awesome.

BTW: i think scots is a pretty good guy. tehy swing around maces and doesn't afraid of anything.

Okay, anyone see that new show they have on Spike? It's like a gory Mythbusters cash in on the pirate-ninja thing.

For their tests, they crank up the gore and blood for oohs and ahs while they test old weapons of a certain warrior.

Sadly, I find that the show is full of itself. It's a step away from the douchebaggery of "MANswers", but the whole "oh, my warrior kicks your warrior's ass" is unnecessary. I guess just attitude and writing can't be helped since it's Spike.

What say you?
It is so awesome. The smack talk makes it even better.

I think that the coolest part is seeing the different weapons that the two sides bring. but I felt that sometimes that it could be done better but that would mean creating a very complicated AI which is not really possible in the short amount of time which has been aloted.

Ninja: Sneaky mother-fucker who has no concept of honor or nobility; end comes before the means.

Samurai: Warrior-poet who only fights with honor and nobility; means comes before the end.

The idea is that a Samurai is the ultimate warrior, one versed in the ways of peace as well as those of war. Unfortunately, as Therumancer pointed out, you sacrifice some of the arts of war for the arts of peace and you are a less fearsome warrior. A Ninja is the exact opposite of a Samurai, a silent assassin that plans his kills as much as twenty years (yes, you read that right, twenty years) ahead of time and will complete the mission no matter the personal cost. A Ninja's order of priorities when not on a mission was thus:
1) Clan
2) Anything else
A Ninja mid-mission had priorities thusly:
1) Mission
2) Clan
3) Anything else
Ninja were not nice people. If you were in their way, they would kill you in a heartbeat with no regard to who you were or what you did and no guilt afterwards.

hey, I just got done going to the Wikipedia article for the show. Needs to be rewritten, but It also showed what the next episodes are going to be.

Season Finale?

Irish Republican Army vs. Taliban

Should be interesting.
Obviously the Irish would win, and I'm not entirely biased.
So true. But the show is ok, even if it is a bit biased.

Look, just watch this show to see them demo all the weapons. If you're actually expecting some sort of rigorous scientific results from it you should re-evaluate your priorities. They made this show to blow shit up and chop up gelatin torsos. It's for entertainment before it is scientific merit.

Ugh. I think this is a terrible show. I guess it succeeds in capturing Spike TV's main audience of mainly beer guzzling, testosterone driven frat boys. But I just can't stand sloppy methodology. It's a pet peeve of mine =\

Hey i enjoy the show and most of the battles were interesting to see and learn but i will agree that the Spartan vs Ninja battle was complete and utter BS. Everyone knows a ninja will never fight an enemy straight up EVER. Even the ninja 'expert' said the ninja wouldnt fight straight up he'd just kill you in your sleep.

I can agree on the douchebaggery of the representatives for the competing warriors i think the biggest examples of that would be the guys for the gladiators. Every test the apache's would show with their weapons at least one of them had to make a menacing comment

The show is interesting. I love the concept, but as someone else said, it's executed poorly.

There's too much trash-talk. They try too hard to make it a "Spike TV" program, or in other words, the people try too hard to be tough and "manly". Yeah, it's for adult men, but seriously, it's not like everyone's dumb. Basically, the guys come off as ridiculous fanboys that remind me of those on the Internet.

Also, the tests are NOT similar at all. They're totally different in all cases, and sometimes is unfair/too biased. For example, the grenade test in Green Beret vs Spetsnaz - One grenade was next to dummies in an enclosed room...the other grenade was inside a laundry machine with targets outside. Didn't we learn in science courses that tests should be similar to truly compare two things?

Then there's the case of questionable research, but that's up for individual opinions. Some people say the show is more like "Deadliest Weapon", others say different things.

Lastly, they need to match up warriors more fairly. We should be seeing similar fighters fighting each other, not totally different ones. I know having crazy match-ups is cool and all, but they're often one-sided. Spartan vs Gladiator or Apache vs Ninja would be more entertaining and much more of a guessing game. Otherwise, a lot of the match-ups were way too obvious in terms of who would win or not. The gun ones (Mafia/Yakuza, Green Beret/Spetsnaz, IRA/Taliban) were the only ones I could not predict correctly, because those were actually even match-ups.

One thing I never understood: They say the show isn't "Deadliest Assassin" or "Deadliest Distraction" - so why bother having a Ninja up there at all, especially when we KNOW they don't fight up front?

I say I like their tests being that they are interesting, I hate how they are cocky about their warriors being better, seeing as the fighting styles were adapted to their environment and sometimes centuries apart in technology. Like pirate vs. knight I thought was crap, seeing as they didn't even test the horse which was a major advantage, and buddy had about5 pistols. Who carries 5 pistols (rhetorical question please don't answer it.)

I'm not your buddy, guy!
(I'm so sorry, I couldn't resist.)

Being serious here, according to the show pirates did carry several firearms at once.
(I'm sorry again.)

Sorry I could have said pirate but come on! The warhorse crushed skulls! The pirates pistols fired in 100000 different directions! It just seems that the knight could have easily slaughtered the pirate, but instead he used his worst weapon for the longest, the fail.
