So I was doing my usual nightly routine of watching television when I noticed this interesting little gem called "Deadliest Warrior".

Long Description: A bunch of experts get together and determine who is the Deadliest Warrior by running tests with the weapons each warrior used (it usually involves Ballistics Gel) and feeding the results into a computer.

Short Description: Who would win in a fight: An Apache or a Roman Gladiator (For example)

Here's the kicker: The narrator for the show is the same man who was the narrator in 300! And he talks in the same dripping-in-forboding manner he does in the movie.

So has anyone else seen this show? If so, what is your opinion?

Neither, Mongolians are the deadliest. Don't piss off the Mongolians.

The einter world learned what happens when you mess with just ONE Monglian.

Totally agreed with the show's conclusion of Apache. Sorry...superior ranged weapon will win every time....
Thought it was a lot of fun....

The Apaches were a pretty hard bunch... I thought it was a little MUCH.. but then again, so was "Snake Blocker".

Roman Gladiators used a wide array of weaponry and armour.
With that in mind, I would have to say the Roman Gladiator, as depending on what they are armed with, they could have an advantage, or a disadvantage.

Generally the Romans trained their Gladiators to a high standard as well.

apache would kill a gladiator because gladiators dont armor their chest. the biggest target. also appache's whole strategy was to surprise attack. So yea, not much of a chance for the gladiator even though they have better armor and weapons.

Now a viking vs apache, i would have to say vikings would win. they're basically the same except more brutal. The Visigoths and Vandals were also pretty brutal. The Germanic people who started the Middle Ages & Knighthood were also pretty badass.

Ah, that show sucks. The breakdown of the weapons is pretty good, but the hokey play acting fight at the end is so stupid I feel embarrassed for them. I had to chuckle over "gladiator meets apache in the forest". Besides, it's totally out of context. Many warriors depended on unit cohesion to be effective (hoplites), but are not going to be all that effective in taking down a damn longbow man. I'm sure they try to match up similar fighters, but still, it comes off as lame. They should use the time to highlight why warrior A kicked so much ass against warrior B, according to history. Please kill this show.

yeah, it doesn't look fantastic, because as Skinnyslim above said, it's all out of context, and there are too many variables to be considered.

My brother told me about this show while we were home for Easter. It seems like a cool concept, but the way he described made the show seem very one-sided. The fights seem like they'd be good for a cheap chuckle, though.

I haven't seen it yet so can you tell me how it would be one-sided.

The one he told me about was the Gladiators v. Apache one. When they picked the weapons they chose weapons that gave the Apache the advantage. For example, the distance weapon they gave the Apache was the bow and arrow, whereas they gave the gladiator a sling, despite the fact that gladiators also used bows and arrows as well as crossbows.

I saw the series opener and was pissed the Gladiator lost. And as SkinnySlim said then ending fight scene is laughable. Although the way that they demonstrate the weapons is pretty badass.

And does this show remind anyone of the show Discovery used to air a few years ago (It may have been Animal Planet I can't remember to save my life) where they pitted animals against each other in the same way. The one I remember was Elephant vs. Rhino.

Thank you, and that sounds... not cool. (damn sleep deprivation)

Another problem is that the end simulations make no sense. They make it so the warriors use all of their weapons, which means that the arrows randomly do little damage, or the weapons miss. In the episode I saw, the Samurai warrior, whose bow could hit both eyes at 45 feet, randomly hit the viking in the shoulder.

Its kind of funny how many people lost money due to this show most of my friends bet on the show and lucky enought they won! Last episode was the American special force the Green Berets vs the Russian special forces the Spetznaz. It was pretty obvious that the Russians would win because of their training making them killing machines they can take a blow and take it. Most of the time I question who would win such as the Mafia vs the Yakuza most of my friends said the Yakuza would take it but the Mafia. Next episode is the Shaolin Monk(chinese martial art experts)vs the Maori could be interesting. One episode is te IRA vs the Taliban who will be the two experts representing the Taliban :)
