I`ve no not agree with all your negative comments this show is quite interesting, However the person who wins the most test the best weapons usually wins but that mafia vs Yakuza what pretty hard to see

I think the biggest problem with the show is that they didn't do a Pirate vs. Ninja episode.

I haven't seen it yet so can you tell me how it would be one-sided.
The one he told me about was the Gladiators v. Apache one. When they picked the weapons they chose weapons that gave the Apache the advantage. For example, the distance weapon they gave the Apache was the bow and arrow, whereas they gave the gladiator a sling, despite the fact that gladiators also used bows and arrows as well as crossbows.
In the hands of a trained man, the sling is as dangerous if not more so than a bow. Whereas with a bow you have to carry around long, thin, fragile arrows and hit them in a specific spot to do more than cause a light puncture wound, a sling needs only a round rock and to strike the head, neck, or perhaps arms to cause the enemy to be completely helpless.

Admittedly, the enemy can't be wearing much more than padded cloth armor, but the sling is still a viable weapon. The bow and the sling have their place.

Why is the sling so underappreciated? I love that thing.

The sling is probably underrated due to the short range compared to a longbow. Besides arrows used for battle (or hunting) was often with a broad tip so that they would cause large wounds or if against armour bodkin arrows.

So I was doing my usual nightly routine of watching television when I noticed this interesting little gem called "Deadliest Warrior".

Long Description: A bunch of experts get together and determine who is the Deadliest Warrior by running tests with the weapons each warrior used (it usually involves Ballistics Gel) and feeding the results into a computer.

Short Description: Who would win in a fight: An Apache or a Roman Gladiator (For example)

Here's the kicker: The narrator for the show is the same man who was the narrator in 300! And he talks in the same dripping-in-forboding manner he does in the movie.

So has anyone else seen this show? If so, what is your opinion?
I take it you don't mean the helicopter then? Thats what I tought til I was halfway down this thread.

I agree with all above said,

But my biggest beef is how they test the weapons. For Mafia v. Yakuza, when testing explosives, the mafia molotov cocktail was thrown into a car while the Yakuza grenade detonated in an open area. When testing the hand-held weapons, the baseball bat was used against a stationary dummy, while the Yakuza sword was swung at a pig being hurled at about 15mph. I could be mixing my warriors up here but the point still stands
If your gonna test these weapons, you at least have to test them in the same situation, if we really wanna be objective. Let the Gladiator get totally fucked up by the ninja all show. You don't have to try to make that seem close if it isn't.

Also I love how the "experts" totally just get to play with toys all day at their job, then act like little kids durring the testing.

Ninja expert: "The ninja would step outta they way!"
Spartan Expert: " NU UHH! Then he would use his shield like this!"
Ninja Expert: "Then I would use my sword like this!"

ect. ect....

I'm not talking about the stupid hollywood things, I mean real life spartans.

they're the most hard core.
They lose on numbers. At any given time, about half of their army weren't true Spartans, they were the middle class slaves above the Helots.

Actually, the Macedonians would probably beat the Apache and Romans, if they had Alexander the great or his father leading the army.

Well seeing as I'm Ponca I have to vote for Apache. Knowing they were well known for ambush fighting and one of the few tribes that totally dug going into melee.

Even though they're from a different part of the country than us.

I agree. The worst one I have seen for this so far was last night's new episode Green Beret vs Soviet Spetznaz*.

Soviet guys put their grenade in a washing machine, and the shrapnel still manages to "kill" 5 of 8 guys.

American grenade thrown into an enclosed space with 3 mannequins in it, blows up mannequins.

America wins....

Oh wait, wtf? Why was the Soviet grenade in a washing machine and the American one not?

In any event, Soviets won, as they should have.

There is a new show on Spike called Deadliest Warrior that examen and pit warriors from all points in history ageist each other. What do you guys think of it. I like it but I don't think that there judgments are quite right.
I love shows that examen things espeically ageists. They think they're so great because they're not old.

Anyway, the show is dumb. It always seems like they decide before the show starts who is going to win and build around that. I wouldn't be suprised if they filmed two endings to every episode but always picked the one that was the 'underdog' to win.

It's a comedy show. It has to be. So much of the information is nonsense, and the whole setup is insanely contrived. A ninja versus a Spartan in a one-on-one fight? Are you kidding me? They're children bickering over their favourite cartoon characters, and it's made all the more hilarious by their "experts" learning all they know from cliches and legends.

I voted Roman.

I saw the show with this one in. this show is entertaining but it is not a documentary or a history programe. it's fun to watch, i like violence, but it's theories on who would win have holes in big enough to fit ol' Liza in 'em. (massive!) they take something as complex and random as combat, reduce it to information on a computer, convert that information into numerical data, which is it's self arbetery and totaly flaud in theory since the scale and graph on which this information is placed and interperated, is created by the minds of people who have no idea how one would convert a complex human fight into data. so everything that happens at the end of one of these shows is untrustable, and kinda stupid. (they put a 17th cent' pirate up against a 13th cent' crusader knight ,lol)

More Hardcore than Ninja's. Spartans were in the first episode I watched, and they kicked a Ninja's ass.

My favourite episode so far was the Green beret's versus the Spetzsnaz. It was something I could relate to being a gun nerd, and I was rooting for the underdog(as usual, and they always seem to win).

The only general problems with Gladiators is that they were slaves. A lot of these men would become gladiators when they were GROWN, which leads me to believe they wouldn't be able to learn as much about weaponry and the like as someone like an apache who started learning from say.. birth.

Apaches are also very agile and very quick!

Apache, is it just me are did anyone else find how they portrayed the Apache as blood thirsty savages a little offensive?
It's Deadliest Warrior, the don't exactly go in for proper representation. Also, yes, a bit.

Although my favourite one would have to have been Samurai vs Rennaiscance era swordsman. Putting a ceremonially dressed and armed European against a fully armed and armoured Japanese soldier. Good comparison. Woud have been interesting to see how a Katana and fabric based armour held up against a soldier armed with a Claymore and proper armour, but apparently that didn't meet the rule of cool...
