Yea, I agree that the Mayans were amazing at how they could predict the future, but these were people who didn't know where the sun went at night and would sacrafice villagers to bring it back.Dancingman said:

Correct me if im horribly wrong, but wasnt the tradition of foreseeing by mayan priests, executed by means of getting the priests high on mushrooms or other herbs and then listening to what these doped up men "saw" in their hallucinations. Also the fact that these people practised brutal sacrificial rituals and medical treatments, makes me (personally) see them as unreliable. Im not going anywhere specific with this, but I just back my disbelief in a world end with this information.

The fourth news story on BBC News that day will be how the world is still in one piece. Page four of the newspapers on December 22 will have a few colums about a mass suicide that happened the day before. Life goes on as usual, and people realise that they thought the exact same thing was going to happen twelve years, eleven months and twenty-two days before.

Lets say its Dec, 21, 2012. And 1 out of every 100 think someone is going to happen on this day. Well, guess what something will because, people will do really freaking dumb things. They could do things like this, start a massive computer virus that could do a lot of dmg, or a ton of people by guns and hit the streets. People will do this because they want to be like, "Hey I did something really awesome/coo/famous/etc on this date in history". If you get enough people to think that like, which isn't hard with media today, well then yeah something, I dont know what will happen on that date.

IMO, I haven't read much of the thread but when it comes down to it I always rely on a few facts.
1: Earth has apparently died 6 times. Science has proven that. So if we all become extinct life will go on.
2: The Native Americans in general believed men in metal armor were gods.
3: On the alien part of the theory there's too much evidence that has yet to be dis proven to indicate that aliens don't exist.
And finally, Scientists predict that in 50 years if we don't abruptly stop the amount of greenhouse gases in the ozone the ice caps will melt. So, odds are these are the end of days regardless.

I think that the day will go on as planned and everyone will continue with their lives.
No one can predict the end of the world. Everyone thought Y2K was DEFINATELY gonna happen, but we're still here. We thought CERN was going to make a black hole and kill us all. There's 600 other doomsday dates floating around on the internet.
But if it does happen? I'm gonna shoot all my friends in the face and laugh.
EDIT: Actually, now that I think about it... a lot of people won't even remember the date and the next day we'll see the news and think ' Holy crap, that was yesterday?? '

Why, what is "supposed" to happen? (Rhetorical question meaning I didn't know the significance of that date previously and think it's all bull-honkey)
Whenever I hear about dates in the future I can't help but reflect on how old I'll be when the date comes around.
What will I do on the date? Probably throw some kind of "end of the world" party and get drunk.
