Two villain movies came out this year. Two animated children's movies. Made for 3D. They were both pretty good. They were also a little similar. But, which one did you like more?

Despicable Me wins my vote.
Gru, the main character, is a more rounded villain with better motivation than Megamind. Megamind apparently isn't really a bad guy, he just acts like one. The motivation is a little weak. But Gru has a bit of mother troubles. He wants to impress his mother, make her proud, and I think that is a better framing for his actions. Plus, I would kind of like it if Megamind was more evil. Not exactly kid-freindly, but kind of fitting seeing as he's the villain. Gru, while falling in love with three little girls, still retains a bit of evil to him. But you can kind of see that he has more ambition and drive than his Blue-headed opposite. He wants the moon. He wants his mother to be proud. He's at least got decent motivation.

Also, the Minions. I fucking love those little guys.

Megamind is still good, but I liked Despicable Me more.

I thought megamind was just plain awesome and was a great deconstruction of the superhero genre. despiicable me was just trying too hard to be heartwarming.

I will say that there were times when it was trying way too hard to be cute.

Despicable Me FTW, it was much more heartwarming and emotionally gripping. I put it on par with Up, but that might be me being really generous.

Basicly that.

I came into the theater for Dispicable Me with an expectation to see some evil.
I came back out gravely disappointed.

It turned into a gard damn chick flick half way through...

MASSIVE disappointment.

I realise, of course, that I was killed by my own expectations, and not the movie, but man, it would have been sooo much cooler if he had actually done some evil.

Evil Genious-style.

Megamind edges out on top for me. Despicable Me was definately more in-depth as far as story and character development, but it just didn't get me as pumped up as Megamind did. DM was much cuter, but Megamind almost seemed like a better satire on the Superhero/Supervillan classic.

Megamind was brilliantly made - humour wasn't lame, cheesy, or too 'kiddy'. It was very cleverly done. Wins my vote

Despicable me was good, but not great

Both depressed me greatly but I'll vote Depreciable Me for the minions.

I'll go with Megamind. It's open about Megamind trying to be a villain (in his own peculiar way) than actually being a villain. He plays his role to the hilt without really understanding what villainy or heroism even are. That is, until later when things get serious.

It would be interesting sometime to see a more mature movie with a Villain Protagonist with actual goals. These two movies both have villains that act out villainy in a highly ritualistic way; in Megamind's case, to the point where he is hopelessly adrift the moment the ritual ends.

Yes they were! They were like little twinkies....*Drools* :D

Secondly I have to ask, "Did Megamind punch a shark?"

I THINK NOT!!

Despicable Me is better in general, but Megamind has a better antagonist.
