I don't care about Dante.

But Ninja Theory has a track record of terrible combat, and good storytelling.

Shame Devil May Cry is all about the combat.

Oh shutup, we goddamn know! And to everyone who feels like adding a reply like this. Go Do it somewhere else, this discussion is supposed to be mature and intellectual. If your only opinion is to criticize those other people posting here, YOU ARE NOT WELCOME!
I'm just saying, not really my business... But if you want a mature and intellectual conversation, don't respond to someone in a more immature way. Looks really bad and hypocritical.

OT: I don't really care, to be honest. I've never cared about DMC, though a friend of mine is pissed about the new Dante. I've gotta admit, I don't think it looks that good either.

I care not. I don't mind Dante's new look, and honestly... We don't even know enough about the game to come to any conclusions yet. We know that it's a prequel. So maybe it'll explain how he turned into the Dante shown in the other games.

I find it simply staggering people jump to hate it so quickly without even knowing much about it. At least wait till all the information is on the table before you write it off.

If they stick with the character through the whole game like, "Yeah, he was totally like this all along. What Dante were you thinking of?" then it will seriously suck. But I'm down with them exploring what Dante was like before he got in touch with his real demon powers, or whatever the reason they give for him being so different in the prequel than from the rest of the series.

Personally I had a bigger issue with them changing Cole in Infamous 2. I didn't care about his change in wardrobe. It was that he was now a pretty boy. Cole is a lot more gruff and tough. I have to agree however this Dante is a tad off putting. For me it's only because of the whole "emo/scene" look. I HATE that look with a bleeding passion. Very VERY few people can pull it off and it's not so bad, but most look like an idiot. The clothes for Dante don't bother me (much like with Cole) it's the face/hair, it's just not right. I'm still going to give this game a shot, it looks pretty solid so far.

First, it is NOT A PREQUEL IT IS A REBOOT. It's impossible that it's a prequel because Dante didn't "discover" his power. As stated in the first 5 minutes of game 1 "Ever since I was a child I had powers" so it IS a reboot. Which I find to be..... annoying.

I'll still buy it, probably at full $60 retail and cry myself to sleep when it inevitably sucks. It's being developed by Ninja Theory who have only developed 3 games: Heavenly Sword, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, and Kung Fu Chaos. None of which did very well.

So DMC is a dying franchise tied to a sinking ship by Capcom.

DO IT CAPCOM.
Do IT!

I don't defend the choice, but I defend sticking to one's guns.

Capcom, if you are gonna do this, then do it, and don't you dare apologize for it.

I'm really not fussed. If the following is true, then I'm all for it:

In another recent interview, Capcom revealed that they knew Dante's new look would be met with negative backlash and that they pressed forward with this in mind; they also explained that DmC is not a "reboot" as it was believed to be, but an origin story taking place before the events of Devil May Cry 3 and that the new Dante is, in fact, the Dante of the original series at a younger age who is just beginning to accept his demonic nature.
And like it or not, the character would actually make sense. It's easy to imagine that in his youth Dante was a rebellious little shit and like many teens took up smoking as either an image booster or simply to ease himself.

As a fan of the series I've never liked Dante. He's not particularly remarkable as a character, especially when you stand him next to his brother. I can see why fans are getting pissy but it'd be nice if they weren't so closed minded about change.

Right, but knowing you have powers and taking full control of them is probably a pretty big journey without guidance.

EmeraldRafael's Gamer Tell quote and Azure-Supernova's first quote pretty much sums up the argument for me. I've loved the Devil May Cry series for quite a bit now, and seen it go through enough stuff to make me want to put my controller through a wall that actually turned out okay in the end, even if it's not the way I would've taken the series. But I'm not - it's a new team, new lead designer, new vision. Let them tell the DMC story the way they see fit. I doubt Capcom's just gonna give some new guy a beloved game franchise and completely trash it.

If it is, in fact, the Dante we all know and love but younger, that explains a lot of his personality changes. When I was young I had messy hair and smoked cigarettes while trying to figure out my place in the world, and I didn't even have demon powers. Dante does and did. Seeing Dante in his own "rebellious youth" phase would be amazing, seeing how he might go from a Nero type of kid to who he is today.

As for the looking like the lead designer controversy...well...I've got nothing there.

I´m guessing that this is pre-DMC3 SO that we can see him transform into the Dante we know.

So... DMC-->dEVIL mAY cry 3-->devil may cry1--->wait, this timeline is all screwed up!what is this, i dont even...

Well, i´m giving dmc a chance. First i´ll play it , then i´ll see if it´s good or not. At least the franchise is moving into unexplored, unexpected and UNPREDICTABLE territory. Storywise, that´s already an improvement on the previous games, amirite? As long as they dont fuck up the kickass gameplay and the cool soundtrack, i´m ok with Dante´s emo look. Well...not ok, but i can live with it.
