So, which up and coming hack and slashy, spellcasty, lootacular are YOU planning on getting?! And for what reasons!? ETC!?

Personally, I'm not really sure yet, which to be honest is the main reason I made this thread. So if you have a recommendation, make it!

I'm going for Torchlight 2. Absolutely loved the first and I won't have to deal with the internet connection thing.

Probably Torchlight. Mainly because I know one of my mates'll be getting it, plus it's cheaper.

T2. Loved the first and I've encountered way too many issues in D3's beta (yes I know it's beta...).

One of the main reasons being D3 rus poorly once I enter a dungeon and the whole always-need-internet thing is a no for me!

I adored Torchlight 1, and I'd buy T2 if it was pretty much just T1 with multiplayer, but now its got whole new characters, somewhat larger than the first, and half the game takes place above ground! Pretty excited.

Normally this would put T2 and D3 on par for me, however the always-on DRM for D3 mixed with the 1/3rd the price point for T2 makes this one a no-brainer. Plus I played the D3 beta and while I liked it, I definitely didn't 60 dollars like it. Add to the fact that if I want to want til Christmas, I can probably pick up T2 for 5-10.

Let's see, I liked the first Torchlight, Torchlight 2 will cost a third of Diablo III, Torchlight 2 will have mods, and Torchlight 2 won't have a real-money auction house or require a constant internet connection.

I'm not trying to say that Torchlight 2 will be the best beat up monsters for shiny loot game, but between that and Diablo III, I think it is the clear winner.

Diablo III. "Made by the Original Diablo team" is only a bringer-in to people who've either never played the Original Diablo or view it through extremely powerful Nostalgia filters.

I'm really more interested in Torchlight. I didn't see anything during the D3 beta that made me think it was a major step up in any regard, and I loved the mods of the first Torchlight that I think I'll have a much longer and more fun experience with TL2.

I'll get them both eventually, but I think D3 will be at least half a year away or just when I'm bored of TL2, which could be a while with the addition of mods.

Torchlight for the nicely stylized graphics that don't break from earlier titles in the series, for the ability to play offline if I want to, for an engine I know will run on both my desktop and laptop and, of course, for the super fun gameplay. Oh, and for the price tag too.

Diablo was the one who invented hack and slash so I'm sure as hell gonna stick with it until the end of time.

I've been waiting 10 years to see what happens story wise after Throne of Baal expansion and now my answers will be revealed in a few weeks.

Can't wait!

One of these games is made by masters in the gaming industry, its a gorgeous game, accessible to the masses (and yes while a bit easy) leaves it fun for the veterans of this genre

and the other is Diablo 3

PATH OF MOTHERFUCKING EXILE BITCHES

Anyone who would pick Diablo or Torchlight over PoE sucks. Step yo game up, fool.

No, seriously. PoE is going to be awesome.
I have not seen Path of Exile before but now that I have I have absolutely no interest in Diablo 3 or Torchlight 2. Path of Exile looks awesome.

Whichever one adds controller support first.

ARPGs play so much better with pads, it's shameful in this day and age that neither D3 or TL2 offer it. The latter especially so as TL made it to consoles so there's not much excuse.

Don't bring it up on their respective websites though, the hateful response to controller threads on the Bliz forums is truly something to behold.

Definitely Torchlight 2 for me.

I had Diablo 3 pre-ordered, played the beta, then went to my local games retailer and promptly cancelled it. I left WoW years ago because of what it had become...and now they're putting WoW into Diablo??? Yeah, no. That, and the fact that I like soloing without being on-line all of the damned time. Lag issues for me really break the deal when it's "always on-line".

Here's to hoping Torchlight 2 improves on itself!

as torchlight got much of a story going on? or is that a really really stupid question?

As far as i recall, some dudes build their town over a dungeon crawl and they send clueless adventurers to farm it buying the items they collect for 5% of their market price. That's the story.

It is a good dungeon crawl however, if a little repetitive.
