Diablo was one of the games I grew up with, and will obviously always love through the eyes of nostalgia no matter what. Just hearing the Tristram theme or Deckard Cain saying "Stay a while and listen." in his soothing scotish accent can bring back floods of childhood memories :)

So obviously I've been deeply invested in any snips of information on Diablo III the internet was willing to provide since the day the project was unveiled 4 years ago.
Us fans have been through a lot of hurdles since then.
The outrage storm when they showed their initial cartooney art style, or the non-random generated WOW type world map!
Fortunately Blizzard listened to us fans (more or less) on most issues and peace was shakily restored.

But as more and more info is being released recently the more the outrage Blizzard seems to be getting.
Personally I don?t think the on-line requirements for single player is a buzz kill, but I'm defiently not a fan of the real money market.

And in reality Diablo never was a Blizzard game to begin with but Condors or Blizzard North.
Blizzard proper never had much involvement in the project and since it's original creators are no longer part of them, Diablo III was bound to be a lot different than what we were used to.

So I've been interested to hear what fans thoughts are so far, seems Blizzard is not committed on rushing things for this year so do you hold hopes for the game or are you put off by all the bad press surrounding the title?
Could Blizzard bounce back?
Are you buying when it's released?

I think people are blowing things out of proportion; the AH only has items from other players and level restrictions still apply. I'm almost never without internet and playing with friends is more fun anyway. I plan on buying it ASAP.

And really, all those people complaining about the art style and crap like that? A game can be "dark" without needing to turn off all the friggen lights. I'm looking forward to the better graphics over the patched-in 800x600 of Diablo 2. Technology marches on.

It's a vocal minority IMO; millions of people are still going to buy it.

Pretty much what the above poster said.

Money AH: While I don't like it, I see it like the Mann Co. in Team Fortress 2, I simply won't be using it.

Always on DRM: If it's anything like SC2, than the "offline" mode can still be played as long as you were connected when you logged in, and if your connection drops, you can continue to play, but nothing is saved until it can reconnect. Besides the only time I don't have a reliable connection is when I'm either downloading something in the background, or during a storm, or if some moron thinks it's a good idea to drive into a telephone pole.

Graphics: Wait... Is this *2007 again? People are still complaining about being able to see?

Though, I played Diablo 2 again recently, but I couldn't get back into it. So I might just be passing on this due to lack of interest

*I don't actually know what year that whole argument started

To be honest I don't really have that much high expectation as I'm looking forward to other games more than this (I never play the past two games). My only reason to buying this at all (I mean it look look interesting but not enoguh for me to buy) is because of my mate who had played the past two games. He had been pestering me non stop to buy the game. I suppose the game will be worth while one I start playing it with my mate in the game.

I am pretty much foaming at the mouth about the online only.

It's getting to the point where I've worked my self up enough that I can't even be arsed giving it a shot.

I really am very pissed about it. Nothing else has even dented my enthusiasm for this game one bit, so much so that I didn't even foresee someone maybe, conceivably, even in a purely theoretical sense, being upset at all about the real money AH. I was genuinely shocked that people thought it would impact the game negatively.

But this online only thing really, really, really, really, pissed me off.

It also doesn't help that I got a warning for absofuckinglutely nothing discussing pirating a offline mode after buying a retail copy (which I'm not doing) in relation to Diablo 3.

I think I have lost all my love for Blizz. Really, it's that bad.

They've gone from neigh on God in the gaming world, the dev that I considered beyond reproach, absolutely flawless and makers of gaming crack which must be mainlined at all times, to just.... nothing.

I might even unlike them on facebook. [serious face]

[small][sub]Yes that was supposed to be a joke. I am actually thinking about it but I don't actually think it's some massive dent in their psyche, or some massive, horrible thing for me to do.[/sub][/small]

I may not like WoW as a game, anymore, but I love WoW simply because it gave Blizzard insane amounts of money so they can put out the best products. And Blizzard doesn't put out bad games. Whenever a game comes close to being just average, Blizzard cancels it as they did with Warcraft Adventures and Starcraft Ghost. I'll be picking up D3 on day 1. Just think of D3 as a free MMO and don't worry about the online only requirement.

I was only ever vaguely interested.

The always-online business took me from "Eh, maybe" to "No fucking way."

It looks like a wonderful game that I won't buy. I've spent most of my life with only a spotty internet connection... I'm not going to pay money for a single player game I can't play when I'm somewhere without the internet. Hell, that's 90% of the reason I buy single player games anymore in the first place.

I don't know.
I've never played a Diablo Game, but it seems like the kind of game I could find myself enjoying.
But that always on DRM sounds like it may be a little bit of a hassle, so maybe not, since I'm already taking a risk with the game in the first place.

I have zero hesitation in buying it. I have no reservations about any of the things they are doing that are "bad". I bought Starcraft and have yet to play it offline. The Real Money AH at least allows Blizzard a little bit of control over the sites that are going to be doing it anyway.

Even though Blizzard is probably the only company that can actually support always-on DRM that isn't annoying as fuck, I still have to stand on the principle. I just can't support such behavior. If they patch it later so that you don't have to be online, I will consider it. Until then, I'll just play Torchlight 2. It will probably come out before Diablo 3 anyway.

Anyone who says they are "outraged" is really just immature (mainly about the DRM). These are fucking video games... you are getting outraged by a bunch of code. Waste your energy on getting outraged about something legitimate like some important social issue. Undo the knots in the panties, and think about things logically. If you are outraged, then you aren't being logical. Anyone who says something like "Thank god for Torchlight 2 herpa derp!" really just needs a reality check.

Okay, so I can see complaining that you might not be able to play the game as much if you travel a lot... but anything else and you are just being an entitled child. I think people are in the wrong as a whole for considering D2 for anything but a multiplayer game, and it's clear as daylight that D3 is intended to be a sort of quasi-MMO, and you've always had to be on the internet to play an MMO. People are just mad because D3 isn't turning out how they wanted it to. The always-on DRM is just a non-issue, I'm sorry.

Anyways, I'll still be looking forward to D3. I am concerned about the execution of the RMT AH and such, mainly how they are going to handle the selling of gold in such a way that won't tank the economy or force people who do not want to use the RMT AH to do so, as well as the extraordinary amount of policing Blizzard is going to have to do to ensure a stable in-game economy (I'm not sure that Blizz knows how much fucking work this is going to be, hence my concern). I think there's tons upon tons of room for Blizzard to royally fuck it up, but at the same time, there's just as much room for it to be a real success and be something truly innovative. Only time will tell us which it is.

Disagreeing with shady business practices doesn't make anyone "immature".
How they disagree, perhaps.

I think that I'll be buying it on day one, rolling a Monk, then ceasing to exist to the outside world for at least a week.

As stated above, the auction house items will still be level restricted, so overpowering low-level players is a non-issue (and I think I've read something about cosmetic items, but that's even less of an issue). My computer is always connected to the internet (like the vast majority of people, traveling notwithstanding, but even most budget motels and airplanes have wi-fi nowadays), so the always-on deal doesn't bother me in the slightest.

So according to some people here, it's okay for WoW to be online only but not D3? Where's the logic in that? Does anyone here not have an internet connection?

The DRM is shady? You made that up.

Then prove your claim.
Why should I not be allowed to play Diablo 3 single player or offline?
What made having both options in Diablo 2 acceptable, but not Diablo 3?
