Commercially, i didn't fail

Game play wise... it's cod what do you expect?

In terms of content in it? Hell no, you have a good campaing, an awesome multiplayer, nazi zombies, That arcade type game and the full game of zork(i think that's what its called)

And finally, in the catagory of adding anythign new... NO

Black ops is what Modern warfare 2 should have been... fun, it's actually balanced and most importantly fun to play.

Yeah there are no sniping maps that I have found yet and don't say guns are balanced...Buy the G11 and your set and teh dragunov is useless as well as a few other guns and I say the dragunov is useless because the hit detection on it only seems to be really crappy for me.

Plus for people who say they have not seen any modded lobbies it took me 6 months to find them in MW2 it's just you need to know the right people.

It's mediocre in the grand scheme of things, but compared to CoD4 and maybe even MW2, it's a disastrously poor game, particularly the multiplayer.

I enjoyed black ops. The campaign was fun with a decent story. Zombies is a blast with 3 friends with mics. The multiplayer is mostly balenced and the currency system is good. The best part however is how much customization there is. Especially if your like me and use a variety of guns and types of classes.

There is a difference between a game failing, and a game being bad.
Not failing doesn't mean it was good, and failing doesn't mean it was bad.
Commercially, Black Ops was a huge success, despite some people not liking it.
So no, Black Ops didn't fail.
And I didn't mind it, as some games go. I've spent more time on Minecraft, to be honest. Not a bad game, not a great game, somewhere in between, and not a failure.
I have to agree, and Activision also happens to agree. In fact, that is all a publisher cares about; they ask: "Can we milk it further?" And if the game is a success, then the answer is yes.

Expect an MW3 or BO2 announcement within the year.

I didn't truly start to appreciate Black Ops till after i went back to play Modern Warfare 2. Black ops multiplayer is so much more balanced than modern warfare 2, i mean, the best killstreaks in BO are dogs and a controllable Heli.In MW2, you could get A NUKE. no quick scoping, witch classes, way less noob tubers, and you have to buy perks, equipment, guns, attachments, etc. BO had zombies, but MW2 had co-op missions, and i can't really pick one over the other. I don't really think BO was a fail, even when Compared to MW2. I'm hoping to see elements of both games in whatever comes next.

I really cant see there being a BO2, i see it probably it going more the way of giving it a new name like they did with World at War and Black Ops. I also just don't think a Modern Warfare game would be as good without IW development. But if they were to continue with BO, what i would love to see is a setting in the Soviet War in Afghanistan, using some creative writing to put whats left of the BO crew in Afghanistan fighting against the KGB and GRU, maybe even ending up with some stealth missions in Soviet Russia or something like that.

Well, that wasn't exactly the point, right? Call of Duty is the biggest cash cow in video game history. And it's a good thing IW was dissolved, if they made another CoD game I would do the opposite of not bombing their headquarters (because HLS would probably knock on my door if I explicitly said I was).

I found that (on Xbox 360) the graphics were fine, but it's just because they did it in the Cold War era that it looks different to MW2, so everyone claims that they're 'bad' in comparison. You can't have the same graphics for a different mood, as they said in one of the Extra Credits vids (I think it was in one of those).
When it comes to campaign, i enjoyed MW2's action sequences, but narrative-wise I liked Black Ops' campaign a lot better.
Multiplayer is the same as any other COD, with different weapons and killstreak rewards. If you play COD 2, it's going to bear resemblance to COD 4 (apart from setting), and so on. Though the weapons are far better balanced, and I don't get much lag on the Xbox.
Everyone says that it's a clone, and it is - because it's still in the CALL OF DUTY SERIES. They're not going to make a Call of Duty game in which it's a point-and-click adventure. They're going to make it an action-oriented FPS.

Does it really matter if it "failed?"
It made oodles and oodles of money. Ungodly amounts.

Also, i'll go out on a limb and say your friends are playing it. Sure, it's not the best game ever made. It's good enough to play just for the interaction.

Of course it didn't fail that game is a commercial success, and it has tons of little extra too like zombie mode, theater mode, zork(lol),dead ops arcade. etc.

Plus:It finally brought back "server browser" (for the pc version) a simple thing that offer the freedom of playing with whomever you please, which is gone from many modern day games

It has problems, yes, but 3arc are releasing patches real fast. That's commendable.

It didn't fail if you're looking at sales figures.

If you're looking at it as a gamer though, it did.

Where are the challenges? Check that, where IS the challenge? Just play for 2 or 3 matches and you get an ACOG, or anything, with credits. In CoD4 and MW2, you had to WORK for that shit. Rather than put in challenges that way, they would rather have you just keep playing, so they added 5 more prestiege levels! And the gameplay does feel shitty. The maps also have nice little spots for campers that are hard to hit.

It was pretty good, imo.

I think most people hate it here because the Escapist is mainly PC gamers, and most PC games run like shit, becuse Developers put al the effort in consel ports for online. it's waaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy better Than MW2, hands down. but not as good as call of duty 4.

Honestly, I think MW2 had all of the elements of an awesome multiplayer game, but IW were massive dicks about the whole thing. If IW didn't have their head in the sand with the whole One Man Army Danger Close crap or dedicated servers (or did Activision just never let them release that?) it could have been a real lasting experience, with a bit of handy application of the mute button of course.

Black Ops, on the other hand, makes me see the death of CoD on the horizon. Sure, I got my money's worth out of it, but unless the renegade IW makes MW3 with some significant game changing element (not likely), CoD is going down after Black Ops. Probably due to the fact that Treyarch can't make interesting maps to save their life. At least Bungie and Infinity Ward can inject some life into their arenas.

Now that its been a while since I played it through and I can set aside my rage and think objectively I can honestly say that it was the worst gaming experience I have ever had. Nothing but frustration. Over and over again. At least the recent trend of insanely short games meant that it didn't last too long (though it bloody well felt like it).

Did it fal financially? Hell No.

Did it fail just generally as a game? Depends on your opinion.

The biggest success for me was the John Woo level and Nazi Zombies which I've loved playing since Nacht Der Untoten.
