When I first got Mass Effect 3 (day 1 of release). I planned on beating it, then start a 3 game marathon. But once I got to the ending I lost all desire to play any Mass Effect game and have not since.

Yes, I didn't even continue the majority of my characters from ME2 after I got the endings the first time. Because it is so story-oriented, and going through with the knowledge that your choices count for nothing just feels empty. There's no reason to pick something different, or think about consequences, because there AREN'T ANY. If it was more gameplay-oriented, I would have played through as different classes like I did in ME2, for the gameplay variety. But it is not, and you just can't shake the hopeless endings hanging over you the whole time.

I'm currently replaying from the first one again and really enjoying it. I still don't really understand what the big fuss about 3's ending was all about, it was certainly better than the ending of 2.

If apparently they make a new reaper to look like the species they're harvesting then how come they all look like squids? I can kill the last boss in 1 hit if I brought the right weapon. A lot of the possible deaths in the ending sequence also felt a bit cheap.

Anyways back on topic. No the ending hasn't stopped me from replaying it.

It was many things that upset people.

Before release Casey Hudson was stating that it wasn't anything like an A, B or C choice. We then got exactly that.

Choices made beforehand, even in the third game, amounted to nothing unless you counted the adding of a number to the war assets total. Why did all the things you did not play out. Most people I've talked to consider the entire Priority Earth mission part of the ending and not seeing those collected War Assets in action was a major disappointment for them.

Hologram Kid was one of the biggest issues. A new character introduced right at the end of the trilogy, who completely changes the status quo of the series badguys. Even more than that, why did Shepard meekly accept every word out of Hologram Kid's mouth.

The Extended Cut fixed some issues but the big issues with the narrative are still present.

If I recall info from ME3 correctly the core of the Reaper looks like the harvested species, which is then encased in the cuttlefish shell. Why they do that is likely a nod back to the first species to be harvested.

Many people like the ending of ME2 because how you played the game reflects in the endings. Don't bother or lose the loyalty of a crew member and it is harder to keep them alive at the end. Pick the wrong person for a task and someone is going to pay the price for that.

I expect I'll replay Mass Effect 3 at some point in the future but for now it has been uninstalled.

unfortunately it ruined the replayability, it probably didn't ruin the entire trilogy i enjoyed all three games, but the ending was a bucket of crap as a gift for finishing, i despise that ending with every brain cell i've got, maybe it is artsy maybe i should have thought different, but for me such ending for what i've considered a masterpiece just rendered all what was before obsolete. what i did - i just watched all possible EC endings on youtube and vuala, i don't ave to replay ever again. i won't ever replay mass effect games, and i will wait for honest opinions of other people before buying any of Bioware game onwards. i'm not entitled to any of the work, maybe i will just keep my money for myself or spend it on something better than today's Bioware and EA
