Poll: Did the Ring Scare You?

I know this is an old movie but I've met debate over it and another post remined me of this: Did the Ring Scare You? Why/Why Not
It scared the crap out of me when I saw it because I used to watch hours of TV a day and the Theater was freezing.

I find I place myself in the state of the main character (immursion) and am only scared when there is know way for me to escape.

For example, I am not afraid of Aliens, Michael Myers, or Jason because you can either kill or outrun them.

But that little girl in the well can appear anywhere and move like lighning!

So, am I a pussy or are there others that feel this way?

Edit: Yeah, I was like ten so this was the American release (the shame!)

It actually did scare me, and it was the american version (I was 14, shut up).
I don't remember why though. It's not like I thought 'Samara' was gonna come out of my TV and drown me. I never watched her damn tape. >>
I actually think the atmosphere was really good, which was most likely it. Yeah most amercian remakes suck horribly, but I think that The Ring was one of the good ones.

If it's the Jap version: Oh yes. Didn't help that I was 10 at the time.
If it's the Yank varsion: No. Just... no.

Japanese or American version? I saw them both 2 years ago in a horror marathon..

I didn't find "the ring" scary mostly because I'm sick of the "little evil girl" theme which has plagued the game and movie industry for years now.. It was fun to see them both though and observe some cultural differences and different way's of making movies.

Alien 1 is still the scariest movie I ever saw

I always figured it could actually be kind of fun, at the end of the week just stand in a field with one of those 80's style mini tv's so you get a hamster sized angry ghost girl. You could get her a cage and a wheel... might remove some of the terror from the situation

Didn't scare me too much (must be a culture thing), but I was damn afraid of the TV in my room because of it.

Back when it first came out? Hell yes it scared me.

Then the horrible trend of Americanizing Japanese horror films started and I began to wish the Ring had never been created.

Funny story about the first time I saw the ring. I was watching it at my best friend's house. Me and my friend were sitting on the floor, and her parents were sitting on the couch behind us watching it with us.

My friend and I were already on edge. But about halfway through the movie when the second phone call comes, just as the phone rang in the movie, the phone in my friend's house rang. We both screamed and grabbed onto each other. Then her dad burst into maniacal laughter. He'd dialed the house phone with his cell phone in order to freak us out. The man is pure evil

I was pretty creeped out by it. And I was 20 at the time. Not so much a "OMG SHITPANTS" scared, but just a case of the willies for a few minutes.

Never saw Ring 2.

American version was not scary at all.

I saw part of the Japanese when I was young, I just remember watching some stuff then left.
I saw the American one and was startled by the dropped jaw schoolgirl but appart from that it was like a kids show to me, something to keep in mind is that I find gore and things similar easy to watch.

I saw it back in 2003. Ever since kid-hood I've been susceptible to a well-done scary movie (i.e. creepy and suspenseful, rather than gore-and-mayhem type like Jason) and I thought Ring worked quite well.

It scared me when it first came out in 2003, but now it doesn't scare me. I fell asleep during the Grudge, so there's your answer on that, too.

Maybe it was because I saw the American version first, but the Jap version was horribly boring and un-scary. The American version had much more polish to it.

Regardless it was scary at the time, but the plot was largely nonsensical, especially by today (who the hell still has VHS?)

I actually saw the japanese version of the Grudge before the American, and I can say with confidence they were both boring and stupid.


I guess I have a bias towards crazy Korean horror films.

I loved Ringu; Ringu 2 was vastly underwhelming.

I haven't even considered seeing the American version; I just won't. Do love the score though.
