It felt really well-rounded killing him. He was the only character that knew of your humble and potentially degrading beginnings, and there's no way I'd let him tarnish my image as Champion!

(...and Master, and Hero, and Knight, and Prince of SI, and Arch-Mage, and master Assassin, and all the rest).

I played the whole Dark Brotherhood quest and failed to notice it was him. Maybe I just forgot.
Me too, and I played through it at least twice thanks to restarts and whatnot. I never even noticed it was that same guy. Ah well, now I know, next time I kill him I can laugh and gloat... ;)

That guy that would make fun of you no matter which race you started as? Yeah I had more fun then others did...
His taunts also varied on the gender of your character, although that may have just been for dark elves (dunmer).

but yes, it was a joy to kill him.

A related question though: has anyone done or bypassed this quest by simply getting arrested in the Imperial City, picking the lock on their cell door, then go and kill Valen Dreth before serving their time or escaping? I just want to know whether this method is possible.

I was to busy running from every guard in the building to do anything but quickly stab him in the face then keep running, curse my insistence on getting the extra stuff for not killing guards!

mmmmmmm yes so warm and tingly, damn now you made me want to relive that moment.
(also so enjoyed the house party murdering, especially without getting caught.)

funny thing was i was playing an orc stealth character, so i was big and muscled but went sneaky sneaky, big fucking axe in the back, all over the place, did get every bonus item i could get with him, was loads of fun.

think i killed Valen by punching him in the face repeatedly, but not before making him beg for mercy.

i seriously loved the Dark Brotherhood quest line and could totally play a game that was all just that sort of almost portal like murder puzzle set in a elder scrolls style world

Valen Dreth [http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Valen_Dreth] was the Dumner who insulted you at the very start of the epic Elder Scrolles IV Oblivion. If you played the Dark Brotherhood quest line you got the oh so sweet joy of killing him.
It was my favourite DB mission. So yeah, I definitely had to change my pants after that arrow sunk in his eye socket.

Meh, he was just another mark. The small pool of voice actors in Oblivion quite literally meant that if you'd killed one Dunmer you'd killed 'em all. Combine that with an Invisibility spell (to allow you to run through stealth sections) and a Charm spell of 100pts for 5 secs (to ensure that any guards that do see you will not only accept your yield but pay your bounty), and you'll probably be able to see why I thought the Dark Brotherhood missions were boring as hell.

I killed everyone in Oblivion, they were all some sort of fucked-up inbred monstrosity.

I had mod that gave me sword where I could commit magicka to burn light people on fire I set it so that it burnt 4 a day and a half at like 1/2 point of hp every 5 seconds so he died slowly on fire and I smiled getting to walk out knowing he was still in his cell smoldering.
