Ok, in the wake of District 9 basically stealing the summer, what do you think should happen next?

Should Blomkamp and Jackson produce a second installment, or should they leave this and focus on something new?

also, while we are at it does anyone have any ideas as to what they should do with a sequel?

(Oh, If this thread has already been done then I apologize)

I didn't really like District 9 in the first place, especially not the last half-hour. I'm pretty sure part 2 would be a continuation of that, so...No.

Nope, leave it alone. It was good as is, just let your imagination do the fill in the blanks.

Umm...Err...I don't know.

I just got back from watching the film and it's probably the best sci-fi movie I've ever seen.

That being said, I worry that IF there is a sequel (which there probably will be) the main thing that made this movie so original will be gone.

[spoiler/] From what we saw it's pretty obviouse that the next movie will probably be a invasion movie, and frankly I don't want to see that. It's been done to death. It may still be a great movie, but it wouldn't be anywhere near as good as the first[/spoiler]

However, if they can put an original and political spin on it like this one then yer, I'd like to see it. But honestly I think this is one those movies where it's best left unresolved. I don't know about you but that was a pretty cool fucking ending, and I'd rather it was just left that way.

Empire Strikes Back Aliens The Last Crusade Return Of The King Die Hard 2 Evil Dead 2 Godfather 2 and THE DARK FUCKING KNIGHT!

sorry just had to get that out of my system

I can do hyperbole too

anyway I think a sequel could easily work, I just think that they need to take the time out to actually think of something

maybe they could pull the Chris Nolan trick of making another film in between sequel's.
I'd love to see Blomkamp do comedy, his writing is really fresh

I'm yet to see this film but a friend o' mine said it as absolutely rubbish. I'm gonna trust his word and say "no". Though I promise I will actually watch this film and form my own opinion at some point.

I do hope you're just joking? Do you really want me to go into my porblems with the film here? I didn't say it was a bad movie, I just didn't like it. That first half hour was so good and inventive the when it began to devolve and started to mirror every other science fiction film i've ever seen I got very disappointed. District 9 started out as a good alegory for apartied, but ended up becoming one big mindless science fiction cliche. Which is a shame. As for the bad person comment, I do eat kittens, live kittens.

If they pulled it off well, people would start to respect opinions rather than fear them like Mr Tiger here.
Not Terminator 2, Godfather 2, Halflife 2, or Dawn of the Dead (Night of the Living Dead 2)

It started out with District 9, then Jackson and Blomkamp would make a sequel of it called "District 9 2", then the two would sign a contract with SOAP net for a spinoff series called "District 90210".

I love blomkamp's work, and I was f**king stoked to see "Alive in Joberg" become something other than a short 6 minute film, but I pray they don't do a sequel.
I hope blomkamp does more films, without Jackson (god i hate him), but i'm really supporting leaving something as pure as district 9 the hell alone!

I'd say go for it, the story has a good ending that fits well, but also leaves a good amount of questions unanswered. I'd be fine with it, as long as Peter Jackson was still on board. If there's anyone who knows how to do sequels, it's him.

I think the film is incredible, it featured a virtuoso performance from a complete unknown (always nice to see a star born)fantastically varied cinematography and actually managed to provoke a massive emotional response from what was essentially am inanimate object (The aliens were not mo-capped as far as I'm aware and had no voice actors) the clincher for me was the scene where wikkus was being forced to test alien guns, when they wheel the prawn outI reacted as if I was watching a real person get subjected to that, and I dont normally react like that when I see REAL people (in movies I mean) get executed horribly.

And by the way to all the sequel haters, do you really think that the guy who came up with the most imaginative, thought provoking action movie since the Dark Knight (and this was his FIRST PROJECT!!) and the guy who brought the Lord of the Rings films (and gave us the feebles) to life really cant think of anything more compelling than an ID4 rip off?

There's obviously going to be a sequel. If this sequel's gonna end up being good or not, that remains to be seen.

Don't say it's gonna be good or bad until you actually see it.

The movie itself leaves a lot of unanswered questions, meaning it's pretty much made for a sequel.
