Here you go another topic on everybody's favourite thing to dislike... DLC.

First, so you don't think I'm going out of my way to start something I will say that I really like some DLC and how it can be used to expand a game. I would also like to say that I miss huge expansion packs that only cost 20-30 dollars and I would definitely take those over $15 map packs, overpriced skins and Capcom charging money to insert cheats into there notanew game.

Anyway, I was wondering how you guys feel about paying money for a company to sell you in house mods?[footnote]DLC A.K.A. IHM.[/footnote] Oh and if you're not interested in answering that question here's a poll. What do you prefer? Developer made mods or player made mods?

What I feel about DLC -
My stance on this is that there allowed to charge you money for there own creations and of course modders are never allowed to charge money for theirs, I just feel that they might be overcharging a bit (I know that there is extensive market research put into everything they do and since that's not my job please note that I used the word feel, not the word think.)
My answer to the poll -
Mods, they have more freedom to do whatever they want no matter how stupid, sometimes that can ruin immersion but there's always another modder out there trying there hardest to fix and add to the immersion of a game, the choice is yours.

In the end I'm not even sure if they should charge money for the half-assed ones, there is some really crappy DLC out there. Does it make me what you guys call entitled for wanting these ones for free even though I could make them by myself?[footnote]I was a modder in my past.[/footnote]

I want to say that's it but there's always the fact that I'm not forced to buy anything I don't want at this point in time and I agree with whoever is thinking that while reading this, I also want to agree with the people thinking that company's will try more and more bullshit if we become complacent... Man I'm all over the place on this issue, I'm going to do myself a favour since it's 5AM and let you if any discuss this... I smell burning toast.

I want player made mods to satisfy our particular tastes and developer made content, because that is what those parties are good at.

But of course with accountants at the helm why not just cash in absurdly on both...

I often prefer DLC for certain games with developers who have a sole "vision" for their game, because they know exactly how they should add to their own game to make it better and to give you a new experience. Kind of like Binding of Isaac: Wrath of the Lamb, I doubt anybody else would that great a job at making new Binding of Isaac content even if it was possible to do so.

However, when it comes to things like Left 4 Dead, some epic/hilarious things come out of user created content:
These end up giving me way more fun than the DLC that VALVe comes out with which are good maps, but nothing really "new".

I prefer mods to DLC. I have to pay for DLC and half the time it's overpriced crap. Mods just let people add whatever they want to the game and then share it. Dawn of war for example. If I want new maps or flag banners then I can just download some player made content. If this was for example EA then I would have to pay half the games price just to get these few things.

You can also get mods that completely overhaul the game and add more new things than a developer made DLC could. Just look at HL2 or Mount and Blade, HL2 was great for modders and people made so much great stuff with it that wasn't even related to the original game. Mount and Blade has whole new modules made by the community that could easily be sequels.

I do prefer mods as you can usaully get good ones. Although it's also possible to have good DLC. Bethesda make excellent DLC and I can usaully trust them to deliver when they release DLC however most developers are not Bethesda and so most of the time it's not worth it. I hate DLC because other than good expansions they usaully just release what could easily be a mods but charge you for it. I've even seen DLC releases which could easily be mods except they would have been higher quality than what they threw out.

TLDR: I like expansion pack DLC such as what Bethesda releases. I hate micro DLC like what EA and most other companies release. I despise the crap DLC that could easily have been free mods but they decided to charge you for it.
I prefer mods.

I like DLC that expands the game and adds more content, like Fallout's Broken Steel, and I tend to usually dislike the ones that just add a few guns and items
