I miss when gaming used to be confined to a group of nerds...but now with the Sony,Microsoft and Nintendo everyone's apparently a gamer.Do you think the casual gamers will ruin gaming maybe by lower level capping, making games more simple so the slow people can understand or making it appeal to them more than us.

If Nintendo's E3 press conference is anything to go by, 'hardcore' gamers are a thing of the past.

It's really a shame, the true gamer is a dying breed, with how accessible games are these days everybody's playing them. That isn't necessarily a bad thing, but only if there's still people making games for people who really play games. Example; Smash Brothers Brawl was NOT ruined by gimmicky motion controls, I was quite relieved. If everything goes Peggle on us, I'm going to be really irked.

Now that i think about it Nintendo is only in it for the money. That's the only reason there still around from the 8-bit era...so i think im just going to go back to pc gaming, but i really wish more companys would stop being like bungie and selling out to corporations where its all about the cash, instead of the players.I mean ever noticed after the 2nd or 3rd installment the game turns to crap...side note:pLLZZZZZ GOD DONT LET IT HAPPEN TO HALF-LIFE.

I dabble in console games when I see something I like, but I'm primarily a PC gamer. If somebody making computer games jerks you around, just don't buy their stuff. That's the advantage of your preferred platform being primarily third party in the gaming department.

PC gaming is the home of the hardcore. With Steam, Direct2Drice, and Gametap, and a whole crapload of MMORPGs, you dont even really need a DVD drive - just a big hard drive.

But the Wii has been disappointing so far. Okami and Mario Galaxy are the only games I like on it. The Virtual COnsole, on the other hand, has some nice classic stuff, including Neo Geo and Turbo Graphix games I had never played before. I never get bored of the classics.

But Im fearful for the future of console games.

Gaming PCs aren't that expensive these days. You can throw together a pretty good one for like $350, and with proper upgrades every few years it'll keep for longer than the typical console run.

Sony is still in the hardcore market. Home of JRPGS, And hardcore games. GOW3 anyone? MGS4 another hardcore game is out and its setting the standard. Ninetedos Casual, Microsoft is the neich between hardcore and casual. And well the ps3 roughs it out being the big ol' Alpha male. Sometimes it takes him longer to get there but he'll get there and kick peoples arse's if they look at him the wrong way. Some of his women may run away, FF13 and GTAIV to mate with microsoft but he'll always be with it. Cause you know the ps3 comes from a place where reading charts and shit=fun. You have to be hardcore to do that.

Search "misconceptions about PC gaming"

Which, believe it or not, is also part of the problem why PC gaming is a minority (and therefore the "last in line" for developers).

At the heart of all this is development costs - because of this, PC version's are "last on the list" and usually lackluster, and developers are trying to make everyone who plays the game like it, otherwise they will be on the street holding a sign saying "will program games for food!" - and if the (for lack of a better term) "console tards" don't like your game, your game isn't a megamillion hit in the first week of release, and therefore you fail as a developer and you can't make games anymore. Something is seriously wrong with the development costs of gaming these days, consoles are expensive, games are expensive, T.V.'s - speakers, the damn CABLES for the systems, the internet service, Strict and Unforgiving DRM, the nickle and diming, the planning of DLC before the game comes out - celebrity cameos and in game advertising, hardly any exclusives... In order to make a profit you've gotta suck every dollar you can.
