()fanboys are annoying. Console, PC, you name it. It's what happens when you stick a bunch of nerdy guys that were picked on in kindergarden together and let them think they are important.

Seriously, that's like where 95% of the gamer image comes from, and it's sad. Most gamers aren't like that, but the EWWW WOMEN SO ICKY I AM SO HARDCORE U SUCK LOLOLOLNEWBFAG people really are ruining it for everyone else.

But then I am a gamer that rather replays Valkyrie Profile, Planescape Torment or plays games on her 3DS than muck around with the newest AAA title, so I am clearly not a "true" gamer anyway. Because I don't care about graphics. Ultima Underworld is more fun to me than Dragon Age 2 ever will be.

Here's the way I see it: ALL gamers have an image problem. We are constantly presenting ourselves as whiny, entitled, self-centered pricks with limited or no scope.
that's a human problem. Not just a gamer problem.

It makes you a Daywalker: you are a loner that does not, nor will ever, fit in with one side of the battle and will always be treated with fear and suspicion; the other side will never stop trying to actively hunt you down - for your blood holds the key to unlocking their true strength.

All gamers have an image problem that is perpetrated from both inside and outside the hobby. Many besides gamers are injustly generalised and pigeon-holed as Google is obviously so keen to show. The best way to approach life is to discriminate indiscriminately.

@Dexter's list made me salivate.

Honestly, I should like to say first and foremost that I am not a PC gamer. Nor a console gamer. Nor a tabletop gamer. I am a bloody gamer, I don't need to further compartmentalize myself in some misbegotten effort to seek greater singularity.
Good for you. I am, on the other hand, a PC gamer.

I grew up as a PC gamer, playing strategy games, adventure games, sims/tycoons, and old-school RPGs. I feel more comfortable sitting in front of a monitor, and tinkering with a slow paced game, than staring at an action game's spectacle from a couch. I expect my games to be flexibly useable with all the options of a mouse and a keyboard. I find the walled garden approach to game libraries stiffling, as I want to look out for frontiers, that a first-party company wouldn't authorize on their system. (mods, abandonware, "inappropriate content", etc).

For all intents and purposes, my tastes brand me as a PC gamer, therefore I admit that's what I am.

It's ridiculous. We need to stop it and just all be friends.
I'm a PC gamer. I'm also a Seventh-day Adventist, a Hungarian PolSci student, a brony, and an anime otaku.

I do have friends who are not adventists, pol-sci students, hungarians, bronies, anime fans, or gamers.

If you think that using a label for your identity automatically makes it impossible for you to be friends with anyone else, that's your problem.

This is a yes and no answer depending on who you're asking. For me, for instance, I am inclined to believe that pure-bred PC gamers can be snobbish, hell I am too over certain gaming aspects, but for the most part I don't care what your choice of gaming platform is.

As long as you're not willingly and blindly buying into a single company, publisher, developer or console, do what you want with your gaming, it doesn't matter.

Here's my issue though: If you pay for Xbox Gold and think it's a good deal, and refuse to consider the contrary, you and I simply won't get on. The fact of the matter is Xbox Live gold is a total rip-off designed to take as much of your money as possible for access to services that you already pay for, or could get on competing consoles for free, but that you "get it on Xbox!". M$ also say it's to get you early content, demo's and exclusives. So what? I don't mind waiting. It's not a race what platform gets it first and if I don't care but just want to play online, Gold is not worth it for me... well it's not worth it in any way whatsoever. If you think that's worth £30-40 a year, you need to see a doctor. That plus cheap games is why I've switched nearly entirely to PC gaming this year. I think I've gone from playing Xbox daily for the past 5 years, to having turned it on exactly 7 times for about an hour over the past 3 months.

If most gamers are not like that, then it's not really these "bad apples" who are ruining everything else, but the haters who are using their existence as a justification for sterotypes.

I mean, look at it this way: There is a disproportionate amount of black people in american prisons. Racists use this statistic as the source of a prejudice for plack people's "innate violent tendencies". Now who is more responsible for ruining black people's reputation? Black criminals, or racists who generalize and stereotype and intentionally spread hate based on that?

OT: Nah, it doesn't really matter what platform you use; people are always going to have different preferences. We're all gamers at the end of the day, and as long as we all enjoy playing together and talking about that stuff, it's all gravy.

Holy crap, what a bunch of idiots.

And the commenter made me laugh, I dont speak at all when I am playing my games, I dont sperg out when I get killed or get a kill.

I think it would be rather entertaining to deduct a point each time someone swears or curses at the other team.

At that point they would be competing for the person who had the lowest negitives
Yeah, you really can't take the shit talking and improper behaviour to actual competitive events. I was watching a little bit of the Shootmania IPL tourney during the weekend and you saw nothing but respect, smiles and happy faces as well as heated discussions between teams after the event on the stream.

Thats' more like it ;)

Typing "Console gamers are" for me yielded the following for the top results:

1: stupid
2: idiots
3: not real gamers
4: retarded

In fact, inserting almost anything with "are/is" following seemed to fill the top results with negative adjectives.
Thus, I conclude that people are insecure and like to look on the internet to get some sense of reaffirmation on their chosen stance of an issue.

Something as simple as "School is" immediately gets "boring", "useless" and "a waste of time".
"Working is" yields "slavery", "overrated", "a waste of life" alongside "the curse of the drinking class".
"Gamers" are apparently "the worst people", "whiny", "losers" and "idiots".

I would like to think that by this point, that I have proved a point.
That point being that the point of this thread is rather pointless and I am being rather pointy in my wording.

Long may the Multi-platform Master Race laugh at the poor single platform peasants :D

Honestly though, would it not just be so much easier if nobody gave a shit what other people played?

[sub]I think I hope for too much with that statement [/sub]
Those of us owning many many formats and enjoying them all should get t-shirts made or something.

OT: Ehh gamers in general are idiots, it's a case of empty vessels making the omst noise. The stupid and ignorant shout about how great their platform is while the rest of us are sensible and discuss games, and story, and mechanics, and other things about the important part of gaming: games

Honestl a few choice people who shall remain anonymous recently met with the banhammer here and it got a bit more pleasant to discuss console games. Mostly because the omnipresent asshats vanished and stopped jumping down your throat for merely mentioning that you may possibly enjoy the dreadful plague of splitscreen!

Okay so the capcha just asked me whichonline casino will give me a free £25 sports bet then gave me a choice of five actual online casinos rather than a casino and some pudding. How the hell am I supposed to figure that out? ¬_¬ I dont follow these things for gods sake...

And these people are allowed to reproduce in the real world.

If you take that shit to an actual competitive event surely you get kicked out?

I'm pretty sure you take it to pokemon's VGC you get thrown out...

Well sort of, the "elitist" claim will come up whenever one group of people is more demanding then the other, and as always both sides have much to learn from one another.
Quite honestly if you believe demanding higher quality games is a detrimental trait then there is something very wrong with you, and if you believe bashing everything is the only thing that is left you ended up in the same boat of daftness.

Sadly these flamewars will not die down for one very simple reason, we revel in adversity, and if we all agree on everything then there is nothing to fight about... to our primal instincts equality would be a very sad state indeed.

I think Nintendo has the more irritating fanbase, constantly shouting graphics don't matter proudly but when a graphical remake comes along that barely counts as a texture at full price they're all over it. If you don't like one of the big Nintendo titles you get a lecture how it started all the games you love and how they saved the gaming industry. They shout incorrect facts such as the first analog stick was on the N64 (Atari 5200, PC, Vectrex, Arcade, Sega Saturn, PS1 flight stick) and how everyone is copying the Nintendo with motion controls (Xavix, arcade). Not to say they're bad, I love my GBA SP and can't get enough Metroid (except Other M) but they get a lot of credit they don't deserve much like Apple.

Are PC elitest annoying? Yes so are any other fanboys, the only difference is PC has been around for ages and consoles keep changing.

I don't care what others play things on, unless it's someone I want to play a co-op game with or something, then you bloody better have it on the Commodore 64.

I draw a parallel between gamers blindly defending their system/bashing others and patriotism.
This ridiculous belief that your country (system) is better than all others because you were born in it (own it), and even more ridiculous urge to talk shit about things YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT.

Seriously, almost all of the people bashing consoles/PCs know nothing about them.
People have this ridiculous idea that PC gaming costs sooooo much more than console, and that you have to be a tech god and change parts every 2 months. People think console controls are terrible and borderline impossible to play with, and that graphics are awful.

Well they're not all the same, its just the vocal minority who let the side down.

I think it comes from jealousy about how content Console gamers are with there choice, even though they see it as ignorance, its blissful ignorance.

No, they don't. Its simple: People pay money for something and they are so insecure they have to reassure themselves that they made the right purchase. This is usually achieved by rabid fanboyism for the product or insulting or belittling people who purchased a competing product or even insulting the competing product itself. If you were actually confident in your purchase and yourself you wouldn't give a flying fuck what anyone else bought or thought about said purchase.

Or,as Yahtzee would say, you were "white enough" to buy all 3 systems and decide for yourself rather than let your insecurities do it for you:p

No more than I am. Who knows, maybe the PC gamers and the console gamers will find some common ground in hating us?

Perhaps we should! Only we'd probably all get robbed.
Mostly because the omnipresent asshats vanished and stopped jumping down your throat for merely mentioning that you may possibly enjoy the dreadful plague of splitscreen!
But splitscreen is the best thing about consoles! What plebs!

OT:
I don't think that anyone really cares what machine others use to get their gaming kick and instead just mouth off on the internet as something to do. Some people just get bored and say stupid shit on the internet to get a reaction.

PC gamers don't have an image problem, in fact most don't really give a shit what everyone else thinks as long as they're having fun.
Though if you mean image problems in terms of vanity... then maybe. There are some pretty extreme case mods about and some of them are bloody expensive.

Saw a steampunk styled case once, many years ago. I still lust after it to this day...
