Seriously, that's like where 95% of the gamer image comes from, and it's sad. Most gamers aren't like that, but the EWWW WOMEN SO ICKY I AM SO HARDCORE U SUCK LOLOLOLNEWBFAG people really are ruining it for everyone else.
If most gamers are not like that, then it's not really these "bad apples" who are ruining everything else, but the haters who are using their existence as a justification for sterotypes.

I mean, look at it this way: There is a disproportionate amount of black people in american prisons. Racists use this statistic as the source of a prejudice for plack people's "innate violent tendencies". Now who is more responsible for ruining black people's reputation? Black criminals, or racists who generalize and stereotype and intentionally spread hate based on that?

OT: Nah, it doesn't really matter what platform you use; people are always going to have different preferences. We're all gamers at the end of the day, and as long as we all enjoy playing together and talking about that stuff, it's all gravy.

Holy crap, what a bunch of idiots.

And the commenter made me laugh, I dont speak at all when I am playing my games, I dont sperg out when I get killed or get a kill.

I think it would be rather entertaining to deduct a point each time someone swears or curses at the other team.

At that point they would be competing for the person who had the lowest negitives
Yeah, you really can't take the shit talking and improper behaviour to actual competitive events. I was watching a little bit of the Shootmania IPL tourney during the weekend and you saw nothing but respect, smiles and happy faces as well as heated discussions between teams after the event on the stream.

Thats' more like it ;)

Typing "Console gamers are" for me yielded the following for the top results:

1: stupid
2: idiots
3: not real gamers
4: retarded

In fact, inserting almost anything with "are/is" following seemed to fill the top results with negative adjectives.
Thus, I conclude that people are insecure and like to look on the internet to get some sense of reaffirmation on their chosen stance of an issue.

Something as simple as "School is" immediately gets "boring", "useless" and "a waste of time".
"Working is" yields "slavery", "overrated", "a waste of life" alongside "the curse of the drinking class".
"Gamers" are apparently "the worst people", "whiny", "losers" and "idiots".

I would like to think that by this point, that I have proved a point.
That point being that the point of this thread is rather pointless and I am being rather pointy in my wording.

Long may the Multi-platform Master Race laugh at the poor single platform peasants :D

Honestly though, would it not just be so much easier if nobody gave a shit what other people played?

[sub]I think I hope for too much with that statement [/sub]
Those of us owning many many formats and enjoying them all should get t-shirts made or something.

OT: Ehh gamers in general are idiots, it's a case of empty vessels making the omst noise. The stupid and ignorant shout about how great their platform is while the rest of us are sensible and discuss games, and story, and mechanics, and other things about the important part of gaming: games

Honestl a few choice people who shall remain anonymous recently met with the banhammer here and it got a bit more pleasant to discuss console games. Mostly because the omnipresent asshats vanished and stopped jumping down your throat for merely mentioning that you may possibly enjoy the dreadful plague of splitscreen!

Okay so the capcha just asked me whichonline casino will give me a free £25 sports bet then gave me a choice of five actual online casinos rather than a casino and some pudding. How the hell am I supposed to figure that out? ¬_¬ I dont follow these things for gods sake...

And these people are allowed to reproduce in the real world.

If you take that shit to an actual competitive event surely you get kicked out?

I'm pretty sure you take it to pokemon's VGC you get thrown out...

Well sort of, the "elitist" claim will come up whenever one group of people is more demanding then the other, and as always both sides have much to learn from one another.
Quite honestly if you believe demanding higher quality games is a detrimental trait then there is something very wrong with you, and if you believe bashing everything is the only thing that is left you ended up in the same boat of daftness.

Sadly these flamewars will not die down for one very simple reason, we revel in adversity, and if we all agree on everything then there is nothing to fight about... to our primal instincts equality would be a very sad state indeed.

I think Nintendo has the more irritating fanbase, constantly shouting graphics don't matter proudly but when a graphical remake comes along that barely counts as a texture at full price they're all over it. If you don't like one of the big Nintendo titles you get a lecture how it started all the games you love and how they saved the gaming industry. They shout incorrect facts such as the first analog stick was on the N64 (Atari 5200, PC, Vectrex, Arcade, Sega Saturn, PS1 flight stick) and how everyone is copying the Nintendo with motion controls (Xavix, arcade). Not to say they're bad, I love my GBA SP and can't get enough Metroid (except Other M) but they get a lot of credit they don't deserve much like Apple.

Are PC elitest annoying? Yes so are any other fanboys, the only difference is PC has been around for ages and consoles keep changing.

I don't care what others play things on, unless it's someone I want to play a co-op game with or something, then you bloody better have it on the Commodore 64.

I draw a parallel between gamers blindly defending their system/bashing others and patriotism.
This ridiculous belief that your country (system) is better than all others because you were born in it (own it), and even more ridiculous urge to talk shit about things YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT.

Seriously, almost all of the people bashing consoles/PCs know nothing about them.
People have this ridiculous idea that PC gaming costs sooooo much more than console, and that you have to be a tech god and change parts every 2 months. People think console controls are terrible and borderline impossible to play with, and that graphics are awful.

Well they're not all the same, its just the vocal minority who let the side down.

I think it comes from jealousy about how content Console gamers are with there choice, even though they see it as ignorance, its blissful ignorance.

No, they don't. Its simple: People pay money for something and they are so insecure they have to reassure themselves that they made the right purchase. This is usually achieved by rabid fanboyism for the product or insulting or belittling people who purchased a competing product or even insulting the competing product itself. If you were actually confident in your purchase and yourself you wouldn't give a flying fuck what anyone else bought or thought about said purchase.

Or,as Yahtzee would say, you were "white enough" to buy all 3 systems and decide for yourself rather than let your insecurities do it for you:p

No more than I am. Who knows, maybe the PC gamers and the console gamers will find some common ground in hating us?

Perhaps we should! Only we'd probably all get robbed.

But splitscreen is the best thing about consoles! What plebs!

OT:
I don't think that anyone really cares what machine others use to get their gaming kick and instead just mouth off on the internet as something to do. Some people just get bored and say stupid shit on the internet to get a reaction.

PC gamers don't have an image problem, in fact most don't really give a shit what everyone else thinks as long as they're having fun.
Though if you mean image problems in terms of vanity... then maybe. There are some pretty extreme case mods about and some of them are bloody expensive.

Saw a steampunk styled case once, many years ago. I still lust after it to this day...

Yea it';d basically be asking for a burglary wouldn't it? :p

I know I love my splitscreen, it's the main way my PS3 gets used at the moment, the splitscreen multiplayer capacity. Some of the best lulz one can have are playing Modern Warfare 2 in splitscreen 1 vs 1 with only knives and throwing knives allowed. Such rage can be created.

I think that that kind of image problem is fine, it's a hobby, the big problem is the shouty ones that go on forums and declare their format objectively superior in every possible way because of lol numbers. Consoles have asshats like that too.

Yeah... erm...

Let's have a look at what else google thinks:
"Console Gamers are... stupid/retards/not real gamers"
Ok, that's... to be expected.

"Teachers are Lazy"
"Scientists are stupid/wrong/evil"?!
"Soldiers are pawns/not heros"
"Doctors are dangerous/useless/stupid"
"Adults are useless/obsolete children/the real monsters"
"Capitalists are evil/parasites/psychopaths/stupid"
"Socialists are evil/lazy/hypocrites/stupid"

...yeeeeeeeeeeeeah.... I'll stop going to google autosearch for my opinion now.

Nah man, not 1v1 blades only, 4 player free for all. Why make 1, maybe 2 people mad, when you can have 4 people foaming at the mouth, sitting within easy striking distance of each other?

One such party ended up looking like the most violent game of twister ever. It was mostly play fighting so no one got seriously hurt. Well apart from my mate's pride after I killed him with a particularly dicey ricochet, then put him in a headlock and noogied him when he went for me.

That's what I want to know, Platform fanboyism is just immature and childish, and you are only limiting yourself to what games you can play, all for what, boosting one's ego?
No. For the creation of better games. Those are the stakes. If you want video games to be better, the more people using PCs the better they will be.

Eg. among other things developing for a console requires you to buy licenses which cost money that could be instead have been funneled back into the creation of the actual game. Developing a game for the PC is free.

I don't think there is a problem with our image. It all comes down to preference. I am used to playing with a keyboard and mouse and love the genres that mostly come out and work best on PC: Space sims, godgames, adventures, RTSs and RPGs.
Racing games, shooters and sports games are genres that work better on consoles. I don't like playing that kind of games, so I don't mind.
I also love the tweaking with my PC and the fact I can easily upgrade it.

That doesn't mean I look down on people that love to play on other platforms, it's just my preference to play on the computer.

When will people understand that PC gamers don't look down on consoles because they are "inferior" hardware-wise. Why should any self-respecting PC gamer CARE about the hardware of some $300 toaster that is either already outdated on release, or going to spend 95% of it's lifetime outdated? Most people already understand that the entire purpose of a console is to be simple, user-friendly and last a long time.

Consoles have no impact on PC's - oh wait, I am dreaming, because unfortunately they DO have an impact and that impact is almost always negative. Again it's not because of inferior hardware, it's because of negative influence.

Where to start, where to start...how about shoddy PC ports? Some say "be thankful you are getting a port at all!" but a badly-done port is even more insulting than no port at all, I can say that right now. The overwhelming majority of games available on PC's are simply an afterthought. You can say that since console sales make up the majority and piracy is quite rampant on PC so a lot of devs don't really put any effort into PC ports...but in the end the PC gamer is the one who has to eat shit, isn't it? Really basic stuff like Field of View and graphics settings are forgotten about.

Console games also tend to be a lot more linear and simplistic, for the most part they are responsible for AAA games becoming sight-seeing tours or QTE-fests. They can also be somewhat held responsible for the stagnation of franchises and endless sequels/remakes because the crowd seems to gobble-up anything that is thrown out to them, they make up the majority of sales and are therefore responsible for encouraging horrendous business practices from the likes of EA.

Then there's the ignorant side of console players, the side which thinks their console is the best, the exclusive games to their favorite platform are immune to criticism, etc you know the really childish side. The fact that Call Of Duty and Halo are typically flooded by 13-year-olds doesn't really help the image of console gamers, often portraying a really immature picture. I know it is more of stereotype than anything, but even stereotypes old a hint of truth. The list goes on and on.

However I have hopes that PS4/720 will begin to change all that.
