Poll: do polls make forum topics more interesting?

well for some reason i think they do =). polls have the "three yr old" affect and (to me atleast) make yours eyes light up with glee at the opportunity to tick a box and poke stuff. it makes the whole forum experience so much better having a poll.

No, they take away from discussion because people feel like they've had their say by simply voting.

I'd say the poll is there to give the topic creator feedback, not to draw people in or give people stuff to do.

Just my 2 cents tho...

No, they let people say "I agree" or disagree and leave without adding to the discussion. It's better if the people who want to agree also have to give reasons. It promotes discussion.

No, for pretty much the reasons stated above. They're somewhat of a cop-out. I'd rather write an essay if it's an interesting topic as I can guarantee that no poll will say exactly what I mean. Sure, they're useful in competitions where there are a number of contestants and one doesn't want to bother counting votes, but otherwise, not really.
