Anyone who says yes is just retarded. OMG, that guy played a computer game at some point in his life then killed some people. It was the games fault. Yes, this make sense now doesnt it.
The fact remains that millions of people play games and the vast majority are not violent retards who kill people. And even the ones who are cant blame games, more the fact that they are mentally fucked up and unbalanced

Edit: i hope whoever voted yes only did it to be ironic. I would be quite surprised to find anyone here who truly thought that games are responsible for violence

Depends on the person: if someone want it to promote violence, then it does. Otherwise, no.

No. If it wasn't a game then somebody would find something else as an excuse.

I know what you mean dude, this guy annoys me a bit because about 90% of his threads contain one line of text, have been done before countless times, and just suck in general.

No, because games are games, not messages to mind-control youths into causing violence and as many others have said, this thread has been done before, so please use the search button next time, thanks.

Do video games promote violence? I've never played a video game that told me to go beat someone up, outside the context of the game. Besides, advertisement is an industry of failure. Do you really think that people buy whatever products they are told to get whenever they see an advertisement? We're dealing with communication, not coercion.

Anyway, I'd argue that the answer - of whether video games can cause violence or not - is irrelevant. My freedom to experience, or express myself by creating, a video game is more important than removing one possible source of violence and aggression (of many). The same logic that would ban or restrict violent video games should apply to any medium, and that is not acceptable. I want to be clear: I am not making a "slippery slope" argument. I am saying that if violent video games are to be restricted for our safety, then all other media, which would have similar effects, should be effected by the same legislation.

Needless to say, I'm strongly opposed to this.

Maybe.

Generally no, but there's always some idiot impressionable enough to do something stupid. This applies equally to films, books and music as well as games, so the points moot really.

Allow me to explain how "the fuck" I think:
Sadists (people who "get off" when people or animals get hurt) might think that since so many do these violent acts and do them for entertainment, then they (others) don't mind if they (the sadists) go around doing those things IRL.
And then we have attention addicts (a certain attorney comes to mind, initials J.T.), stupid people and lazy parents who like to think that games alone bear the guilt of endorsing such stuff, and if only they were banned, then all kids would automatically become sweet angels who always eat their vegetables.
That's how "the fuck" I think. Am I wrong?
