I like having a mic for FIFA team play so I can spend all my time shouting at people who clearly have no idea how to play football, or just aren't that interested in playing as an actual team. It would seem that bit duller if there was just complete silence, though most of my multiplayer gaming is done in parties.

The biggest issue with mic on XBL is that everyone has one. Because every 360 come bundled with a headset mic it means that there is not a single person in the player base without one. If half the people online are dicks... you get the idea. I play online on PSN for this reason. Sure the PS3 has just as many 'dick' owners, it's just they don't all have access to mics.

Its central to gameplay in some games, L4D2 for example, needs a mic to instruct the other players. The reason you were kicked is probably because most people want to set up a plan, if one person doesn't have a mic and someone is downed then they are left screaming "Get me up! No stop attacking zombies and revive me! What the hell, get me up!" Where if you do have a mic it would go "Get me up!" "Ok" "Thanks"
Usually I plug in my mic and then once I get in a game I unplug it. It's never affected how well/poorly my team does.
If you unplug your mic then how do you know if it affected the game or not?

I have it set up so I hear things through the speakers.

Just mute the dickheads, and communicate with everyone else. It sounds like you're going to some pretty unecessary effort to avoid interacting with people.

Unplugging your mic as soon as you get in a game? I guarantee your teammates don't like that.

I give everyone a chance at the beginning of the game. If they start acting like a moron, they get muted. Simple as that!

I have made friends on XBL that I've known for years now. However, I like to be a dick to people and make them angry because it's fun.

So yes, I like mics. I can't imagine XBL without them really.

I only use mine when I'm playing with people I know. Screw everyone else.

What I want to know is why people think its cool to turn on your mic, then turn on some loud music.

1) No one wants to hear your shitty music.(Before you say "mute them", I shouldn't have to mute them. They should just not be morons.)
2) You don't plan on talking, so turn your mic off.

Oh I see what you mean. Sometimes I play with a mic, and I never notice any dramatic difference.

For a second I thought you were trolling me, lol!

I have a surprisingly good time talking with other people on XBL. Sure you run into jerks and annoying people but there will always be jerks, the mics just let you hear them.

I just mute them, report and move on with my day, knowing that I'll never meet them again

I voted "No" only because everyone should have a gaming headset by now. The 360 microphone is pretty terrible.

I think a lot of people underestimate the difference a real headset makes to your gaming, especially for FPS games. I have Astro A40s and they make a HUGE difference in hearing directionality and footsteps.

Maybe I should explain a bit; you select what kind of server you want to play on (chatting, silent, strategic) and then get matched up with other people who picked the same option. Trolls will select chatting so that when they smack talk people they'll get a reaction. Then they won't bother the people who actually want to play the game who are on the other servers.
You are aware that this only affects the team you are matched up with, right? The other team is not affected by what matchmaking options you set, so you can still run into trash-talkers. But that's the thing. Trash talking is kinda part of what makes Halo fun. It's right up there with teabagging in terms of things that have become synchronous with Halo.

(It's also not separate servers, but at this point I'm just splitting hairs.)

What will kill the trolls is the mute ban. If they're trolling, mute 'em. If enough people do it, they won't be able to troll for awhile.

Even if that doesn't work, and all the trolls decide to go to "Chatty, Team Player, Polite," then I can just go to "Chatty, Lone Wolf, Rowdy" and wind up with the nice people. Interesting how that works.

To clarify I you didn't come across as a troll, I just thought you were messing with me.

I might have misinterpreted it a bit but I was close.

See this is why, I, like everyone else on the PC turns MW2's mute all setting on. I'm there to kill people, not listen to whiny 12 year-olds. But if I was playing on Xbox you can be sure I would not listen to any of that shit.

Why wouldn't we need microphones for Live?

I mean, in Modern Warfare 2, it's not the game or XBL's fault that it's always a bunch of whiny bastards that cuss you out and whine whenever they lose or get killed, it's the players' fault.

Games like Burnout Paradise and Team Fortress 2 can pretty much require voice communication though. Burnout, you do co-op challenges and have to plan pretty much everything with everybody. TF2, obviously, it's a good idea to tell people that there's an enemy sentry gun in your basement or a medic-heavy combo flanking you.

Either way my purpose was to post solutions to the problems that may still arise even with what you said.

No, I am not a Halo fanboy. Whatever gave you that idea? You're a witch, aren't you? Burn him! For the glory of the Sanghelli! Wort wort!
