I admit that I don't really care. And free range are 3 times as expensive as battery eggs, but not really three times as good. I'll get barn for preference, since it is a pretty happy sort of mid point of quality and price, but I don't really care about the ethics of it. I know I probably should, but I don't.

No.

In my part of the world most eggs are free range or barn laid and they don't cost extra.

I rarely buy eggs (my lactose issue extends to eggs) but I do get free range when I do. Figure the cost isn't an issue when I only buy maybe a couple dozen a year.

No, and to be honest I now don't for the simple fact they do taste better. I started for ethical reasons but yeah at like 3$ a dozen and better overall flavor it is hard to complain even with no ethical backing.

Ah dear, don't get me started on this xD haha.
I don't eat eggs full stop, based on ethical reasons. In both cases, the chickens' treatment really isn't great. But I guess 'free range' is...something.
But yeah I do have a problem when people get caged.

I honestly don't care.

Sorry but exploiting animals for human gain doesn't bother me : /

I respect your views and choices to eat good eggs, all i ask is you respect my choice not to.

I very rarely buy eggs due to my lack of employment at the moment.

So forgive me for not researching every single company, and instead just reaching for whatever's cheapest.

I do have a problem with the practice of caging chickens, but I buy them anyway.
Why is this?
The answer is simple; Free range/barn eggs are a scam. The ONLY difference between free range and cage is the cage. The chickens don't have any more space to move around in, they pack them in the barns just as tight as in the cages.

Choose your poison, but don't kid yourself into thinking you're doing the 'right' thing.
The only way to do that is to get eggs from a local farm, where you can see how the chickens are kept. (which I do occasionally, when they have eggs available).

I'm gonna be the first person of the voters of the last option to post.

But yeah, I've never paid attention. I have no idea what type of eggs I eat. Is it supposed to be on the carton? Can't say I've ever noticed.

I will if they cost less. I think supermarkets are moving towards free range eggs only (I know the Sainsbury's where I live only stock these), so it's getting harder. Eggs coming from very well treated hens cost an absolute bomb though, don't know where you got the impression that they're not expensive.

My in-laws have a small cattle ranch and their neighbors raise free range chickens so my wife and I always get far fresh eggs from them. If we do have to buy eggs from the store they are free range organic.

I buy whatever eggs are present, they all taste the same to me.

Also, I don't eat eggs very often at the moment--too much effort involved in cooking them. :p

I really should buy free range, especially as the place I work (Waitrose) only stocks free range eggs anyway and we place massive pride in the fact that all our products are of the highest quality, as well as having affordable ranges (such as our rather cheap 'Essentials' range) - which is why we are the best supermarket in the UK! (yeah, shameless advertising - I'm just kidding about all that, although yeah, it is true about the price and quality :p).

But, I barely ever shop there anyway. Not because I don't want to, but because my mum does the shopping in our house, until I can afford my own place (since I can't now I've finished university), and there are literally two Asdas and a Morrisons within a mile of my house whereas the nearest Waitrose is a twenty-minute drive, and is the one where I work.

Therefore I tend to not really care, or know, where my eggs are from. As long as battery hens are cheaper, my mum will continue to buy those eggs, welfare of the animals be damned... :p

Do you survive on cereal? I'm trying to think of anything that takes less effort than eggs.
Pasta (plain pasta, nothing on it.) And ham/cheese roll sandwiches.

Remember, effort also includes cleaning the dishes afterwards. :p
