Poll: Do you buy game magazines?

For a long time i never bought game magazines and considered them rather redundant. Why wait a to hear month old game news when i could get it on a daily basis via the internet. But then i started getting back into pc gaming, lured by the promise of cheap games on steam and mods. And i started picking up pc magazines just to read about the tech or the mods and indie games. Stuff that would slip by my radar because it isnt hugely marketed. I still dont think much of console magazines tbh, but ive found myself occasionally impulse buy one these days too for whats on the cover just to read during the long drives my work involves. So escapists, do you buy game magazines?

I am subscribed to one mag. But I didn't pay for it, I got it for trading games in. I flick through it to look at the pretty pictures.... I like looking on gaming sites and forums to get multiple opinions.

We used to get OAXM (Offical Australian X-box Magazine). Then they upgraded to X-box 360, we didn't, so the subscription was discontinued. Later we got a 360, but didn't bother to renew it, because we had the internet.

I used to be a subscriber to Zero for the Amiga / Atari / PC when I was a young'un. But that was in the day before the Internet, so it was the only way I found out about games. Since then, I've picked up the occasional copy of Games(tm) or Edge once in a while, but I don't really bother unless it's got a Final Fantasy in it.

I do get a few copies of things free through work, so I browse if there's a magazine to hand. In all honesty though, the net and blogging have taken over from printed media here, since they can reach fans so much quicker than a monthly rag.

I'm a long-time subscriber to one magazine, which is (IMO) really good. I'm going to use this website for comparison, since I have decided to pay for a yearly subscription here as well.

Here's why I think the magazine is better:
- their reviews are better than anything I have seen on this site
- they regularly review games before the games are released (for example, I read a three-page review of the Deus Ex: Human Project on August 11th)
- they have excellent columns about the industry in general
- they report on plenty of interesting news that The Escapist completely misses
- they write nostalgic articles about this hobby's past
- they provide several online services that are very useful

The only downside is that I'm paying a lot of money (per' year) for that magazine in comparison to the Escapist subscription. However, I don't mind paying for quality that I simply can't get anywhere else.

Only snowboarding and guitar magazines.

I'm subscribed to a swedish gaming magazine called "Level".

It's very good.

I subscribe to Edge. They're a fantastic publication, with varied content and insightful and informed articles. Absolutely top-notch magazine, I'd love to work there some day.

rare occasion, but nostly I just skulk around gaming sites hoping to see something new!

No I don't, like you say it's just month old news you can get for 'free' on the net. They are also usually plastered with pictures of naked women which doesn't make me want to give them my money.
