Only for WoW. They generally have lots of good information on them, plus, new zone maps before anyone can get the map plugins up to date. Also, it saves me from having to google a lot of things.

Every game I have that had a strategy guide published for it, I got and each one that had a collector's edition, I got. They're aweomse 
I haven't bought a strategy guide in many years. Thanks to the Internet I don't need to. The last one I had was for twilight princess which I got free when I bought the game. Before that... The old red Nintendo Power Final Fantasy 1 guide for the NES and maybe Mortal Kombat 3 on SNES.
I used to, now I use gamefaqs. I'm a completionist and I haven't gotten my money's worth unless I find everything.

My first guide was for Pokemon Gold/Silver, though my parents got that for me because I was a good girl for granny (and they gave me Silver just before they left). My next one was Link To The Past (GBA), though I got it because I was genuinely stuck at the 2nd dungeon (didn't catch on to how sometimes pushing boxes triggers doors to open) and our internet wasn't stable. Plus, it was also my first owned Zelda game so I was still SQUEEing. My FF7 came with guide, so I got it. Was very useful too since I didn't need to bounce back and forth between the tv and computer.
Today with internet guides so easy to find and understand, I don't have too much business to grab one. Sometimes pulling up a video or fan guide is even MORE useful than an official guide. Even before that I would USUALLY find out what to do in a game. If found a cheapie, even to a game I might know inside/out, I might get it for collecting purposes or if there are any interesting/useful tidbits. Someone I know was giving away their Jak 2 guide and I was salivating for it (Jak 2 being a game I both love and dread). I didn't get it though.

i was actually thinking of makeing a thread just like this recently, huh funny how things go.
OT:when i was younger i used to buy strategy guides to every game even ones that i didn't own, just because i liked reading them(and if i happened to have the game in question that was a bonus)nowadays i don't buy every guide i see but i still purchase them when i really need them (or if they look cool, what can i say we never truly grow up i guess)

I occasionally buy strategy guides. I am a big fan of RPGs and often there are hidden extras that I may never find with my playtime budget. Some just depend on the guide itself as companies have realized that to compete with the internet they need to offer that bit of value. On the other hand I have found that the internet is an outstanding source of walkthroughs, strategies, easter egg locations....
Not since I got an internet connection. Why would I buy a $20 strategy guide when I could get a better idea of what to do by looking up the game's wiki or watching Youtube videos? Guide books just can't compete.

The only strategy guides I've got came with the game itself. I'm not really a big "Must complete everything!" person and most game puzzles can be completed with some simple thought. Though I did look up answers for some of Professor Layton's puzzles. Some of those are just damn mean.
I think I might have owned one for Pokemon Sapphire a looong time ago. And I think one came with my Diablo BattleChest. Although I could be imagining that one.
I used to, but now you can get walkthroughs on Youtube, Wiki, or GameFaqs that are just as thorough (and free), which has made them a bit obsolete (unless you enjoy reading them). I see them more so as a relic of my younger years if anything.
If I buy the game and the store has a 20% off if you get it then deal, I will. But I'll only use it for things like getting stuck on side missions, getting stuck on bosses, or character growth info. I never use it for dealing with main storyline missions.
Only ever bought one for Splinter Cell Double Agents. Only used wo pages of it and now i remains in my room, collecting dust.
