Really depends on whoever dies, in my case. For example any death is sad, but a famous death that would actually make me sad would be someone who died way too soon and was still doing good work.
Ex. Leslie Neilsen: Loved the guy, but lets face it; he was in his mid-80's and his glory years were behind him. Plus, he died of natural causes.
Greg Giraldo: Died of accidental overdose. Way too soon. Still as funny as ever in his final days. Comedy Central Roasts are gonna be pretty shitty without him.

I don't really care if anyone famous dies. People will die and if I don't know them, I can't really feel deeply affected. Also, I'm not really a fan of anyone famous so it isn't like I follow any news regarding the death of a celebrity.

Last "famous" person(and I mean like really well known) I felt sad for having lost was Johnny Cash.

Sure Heath Ledger was untimely and kinda' sucked, but I feel it was so blown out of proportion because he was playing the Joker.

If I respect there work, then yeah, it can hit me kind of hard, but elsewise I think, "Oh, that's sad." and move on. Last year's death of Satoshi Kon (Director of some of the best and most mature films (Anime or otherwise) out there) was pretty devastating to me, at least he has one more unreleased film, but after that we'll never get another piece from him.

In general, yeah, I feel bad about hearing when people die. Not because that particular person died, but because I know someone else is feeling horrible. Now, I did take a special interest and cared quite a lot when Ray Charles, Rodney Dangerfield, and a few others died. They, however, were important in my life.

Depends if i like them. For instance of the many celebrity deaths of 2009 i only cared about one and it didn't make headlines.

Yeah if I like them enough.(ex. Leslie Nielsen)

The day Clint Eastwood dies will be a shitty day.

I care not for most celebrities. To be honest I barely batted an eye even when Michael Jackson died. The most you'd get out of me is an "Aww man that kinda sucks" unless it's a person who actually made an impact on my life.

Pretty much anyone from the cast of Futurama (literally the only television show I give a crap about) would make me cry.

I'd probably cry with my mom when Clint Eastwood kicks the bucket. He's getting on in years and my mom is easily one of his biggest fans (and dragged me into liking the guy).

Oooh and maybe Dustin Hoffman. Now there's a charming man that I'd hate to see leave the world.

Aside from the above-listed individuals and maybe a few others I'd probably treat it as just some random stranger in the middle of nowhere dying. Yeah it's sad that they're gone, but I'll live on. :/

Depends if the person in question had a meaningful impact on things that make me who I am. Two examples from recent memory: I was never a major fan of Michael Jackson or his music, so his death passed me by despite the media coverage. However, growing up listening to Bruce Springsteen's music for a great deal of my life, the death of Clarence Clemons put me into a brief period of remembrance and reflection due to my lifelong appreciation for what he did.

Only if they actually, you know, did something. Be it art, philosophy, comedy, whatever. If someone like Kim Kardashien (can't be arsed to look up the spelling) died, I wouldn't give half of a fuck.

If it's someone I like, sure. Like if Samuel L. Jackson died. Now theres a tragedy. Sure alot of people who really didn't care for him would at least pay attention, for awhile.

I've been watching the news this week, and there has been a lot of time dedicated to remembering Caylee Anthony, and I'm honestly getting a bit tired of it. On one hand, it's really sad that a little girl died, but on the other, more cynical hand, I know that the only reason I know Caylee Anthony is because of "missing white girl syndrome" and there are countless deaths going on right now that are just as tragic as her death. It's impossible to mourn for every death in the world, so why should I mourn for a complete stranger.

As Stalin said, "A single death is a tragedy, a million is a statistic."

So what do you think, do you care when a famous people you didn't know dies even though so many tragedies go unnoticed?
If it was a "famous" person who gave me joy through video games, music, art, etc, then I'll be sad that they're gone and won't give me any more joy.

In general no, I was a little sad when George Carlin and Charleton Heston died but I have never shed a tear for a dead celebrity. I take the death of people I am friends/family with fairly badly, but I anyone I have no attachment to i feel bad for just not sad.

I'd have to be a fan of them, otherwise their death isn't very relevant to me and has little impact. I didn't really care when Ryan Dunn or even Michael Jackson died, for instance.

I was, however, very saddened when Macho Man Randy Savage passed away a month ago. I was a big fan of his as a kid.
Macho Sadness for the Macho Man.

Only if they were a person that I liked. It really sucked when Heath Ledger died, because he did the best Joker in the history of Batman movies.

Depends who they are and how they died.

Rock Star dies of drug overdose = don't give a shit

Obama dies of drug overdose = now we have a story worth being invested in, not emotionally though.

Basically anything really out of the norm is worth listening to, but otherwise... meh.

I mourn for family and friends. Tragedies can make me momentarily sad for the victims, but it's nowhere near what I would call mourning.

If I was a fan I care. I'm a big hockey fan and I get upset when one of my favorite teams TRADE a player that I like. Also I was very disheartened when George Carlin passed away.
