just wiki'd it to find out what it was. never heard of it before. it sounds great. too much saliva, swallowing it can induce vomiting, oral growths, and the lovely fact about glass. i know what i'm spending my next wage on.
I think it's a pretty terrible habit. I used to smoke, but there was no way I'd chew or dip. I'm not sure why one is grosser than the other, but it might have to do with all the saliva generated.
What the Americans call "dip" is called "Snus" here in Scandinvia, and it's ctually forbidden by the European Union in all EU-countries except Sweden (And Norway, but we aren't a part of the EU). And no, I don't "dip", but 99% of my friends do.
[SUB]Actually, everybody at my age around here except me "dips", so I demand a medal or something.[/SUB]
I am a smoker. I know that smoking is a bad habit, potentially leading to my death, has the sex appeal of a fart, makes my clothes smell bad, my teeth stained, and so on. . . . and at the end of the day, I can still hold my head up high and say, " At least I don't dip. " and almost everyone would agree with me.
I've dipped the scandinavian style snus Skruf/Lucky Strike pouches for roughly 3 years now, and got no problem with increased saliva.
The glass-thing is a myth, it's salt to stimulate the uptake. Always has been, but die-hard urban legends beats logic and facts hands down.
My clothes and apartment no longer have that sexy ashtray aroma so that's a huge win.
And considering I used to smoke a pack a day but only use one box of snus per week (on average) I save roughly 15000 NOK (~2500$) per year. That adds up fairly fast
