I choose other because I do not drink, but that's mostly because I legally can't drink.

Yuppers. With enthusiasm, too!

Though I make an effort to curb my enthusiasm in the name of a good night's sleep and a morning sans hangover.

I used to drink heavily, but that was mainly because I was in the Navy (the phrase "drink to the foam" is in our fight song...it's REQUIRED!)
I don't blackout drink anymore, but I still get various degrees of buzzed. Sometimes with buds to have fun, sometimes at the end of the day to unwind.

I don't think I'll ever stop completely. But I don't have a problem with it, so I don't see any reason to.

Yes. Started drinking regularly pretty damn early(at the age of 13 or 14) and have been at it ever since. These days I don't drink nearly as much, but I get out at least once every third week I reckon.

Probably started drinking because it was rebellious and cool, then it became part of my life style. Going out, drinking, meeting new people and having fun on the weekends is pretty great. If only it wasn't for hangovers and pubs upping the price by like 300%...

I tolerate it given that some tasty drinks are ruined after the alcohol has been distilled from it.

I voted "Other".

I don't drink anymore because I didn't like how it made me feel; sad, alone, headaches, etc. My father was an alcoholic too, so that factors in. I also had the precursor to a stomach ulser a few years back which will make a great excuse next time I'm in Ireland and my relatives want to buy me drink =) (a simple "no thank you" doesn't always suffice)

(ugh I hate posting on my phone!)

I've never had any. I don't drink because of

1) health
2) money
3) wanting to keep my wits about me
4) alcoholic family members

Not much of a social gathering person anyway (never gone out with friends or anything) so I don't mind it at all. Not to mention that I seem to be fairly immune to peer pressure, if high school was any indication
Pretty much sums up my experience with the stuff. Having an alcoholic parent is no fun.

In my life I've at most had a few sips of wine, each sip on different occasions mostly to try and understand why people insist wine can taste good and tastes like more than sour grapes. I don't drink, and mostly it's because I've got an addictive nature. I've seen drunk people, I grew up around a lot of drunks so I never saw the appeal.

That said, I've got booze in the house but only for cooking, and I do occasionally require help choosing a good wine to cook with, or some other liquor to use.

im against alcohol personally. it doesnt help that the vile brood makes you reek. drink more you turn into a loser. more drinks you become an asshole then full on retard once drunk. it then rightfully punishes you with the worst headache ever in your life afterwards. worst of all, it tastes awful.

and people drink this stuff?. interesting.

maybe its because my grandpa was a scary alcoholic. but all i know it im staying the hell away from that stuff

I love how these threads always end up with people who know so much about what alcohol can do to you without having ever touched the stuff...

OT: Yes I drink. I'll generally go out with the friends once or twice every 2-3 weeks and my drink of choice is usually Jack Daniels/Jameson, not big on drinking at home but I've been less against it in recent years.

Fair enough. Alcohol only matters to you if you try it. From my experiences it turns most of my friends into assholes and my enemies far worse.

But NOOOooooooOooo they have to have their fun.

I'm a college student at "arguably" a party school. Does that answer your question?

That being said, I definitely drink less than other people here. I'm not saying I can't hold my own liquor, but I tend to try and stay at the buzz rather than the full black-out drunkenness like some people here.

Not really. I have before, and most the time I'll choose a soda or just water because it taste better and is a lot cheaper. Jager was about the only alcohol I somewhat liked.

Nope, never have and never will. i refuse to poison myself with the intention of temporarily damaging my brain so that i can have a "good time". In fact it's quite depressing to know i'm always in the minority on these things... but what can i do? Just gotta live with it.

I enjoy alcohol, mostly in moderation. By all accounts I'm actually a pretty happy drunk but I hate / am too old for hangovers so I tend to avoid drinking to excess these days.

I'll also only drink stuff that I like the taste of - which can be difficult on occasion, because I live in Australia and 99% of the beer we produce by volume is undrinkable goat piss.

Mm, I do enjoy a good bourbon with friends, sometimes rum. I was an alcoholic for about six months, but my friends helped me get out of it so now I just have a couple of drinks every now and then. Can't stand beer, makes me feel more drunk than Bourbon or Rum does.

Then chances are your friends are assholes in the first place. As Katatori mentioned earlier, alcohol in no way modifies behavior; it just strips us of whatever minor inhibition prevent us from acting the way we want.

I keep hearing this, but it isn't correct. Alcohol DOES obviously change behavior. People often have their reasoning impaired when drunk.

I suppose I'm really more angry at people that drink heavily than someone that just drinks a beer or two a night.

I used to be an alcoholic, but I quit about 5-6 years ago. I will have a drink once every blue moon, usually if I'm out having a nice dinner with someone. I like sipping some saki at a local Japanese restaurant when I'm in the mood for sushi, or a cold beer with a really good steak.

I don't mean to imply that alcohol in no way affects behavior, just that if you're the kind of person who would never bahave a certain way (and I mean you REALLY wouldn't, not just that you say you wouldn't becaus it makes you look good) then no amount of alcohol will change that.
The problem with that idea, is that most people have learned to stop themselves from doing things early in their childhood. It doesn't reflect on who they are if, when they're reduced to the mind of a small child, they act like a complete ass/idiot. The alcohol simply obliterates any learned self-restraint, good or bad, and even that part of you is in fact a part of you.

No I don't like to drink. I find that I don't get the pleasant buzz that others seem to get from drinking. Instead I just feel kinda dizzy and tired. It's pretty unpleasant.
