now I did wait until I was 21 before I ever drank, but from the age of 15 I couldn't wait for the day I could try Joose. Later on I'd drink 4Loko for the extra alcohol content, plus it was cheaper.

Now? I'm pretty much turned off by sweet things. I happily discovered HG Stacked, same alcohol content, cheaper then the other two, and bitter.

They're tasty. Why not?

I can see the downside to drinks like Smirnoff Ice or WKD, but I don't see why people look down upon them.

(Besides, maybe you should adjust your poll, not everywhere has 21 as the drinking age. For example, many peeps on this forum are British where the drinking age is 18)

My first taste of an alcopop was unpleasant, the story that follows is necessary to understand.

My first taste of an alcoholic beverage was at the age of 12 when my grandfather poured me half a bitter (Worthingtons if you're wondering) with my Sunday lunch. From that point on I've only ever had bitter. However at 15 at family New Years Eve party my parents had allowed me and my cousin to celebrate in style by buying us a bottle of Blue WKD each. I took a sip and was greeted by the sweet sugary taste of blueberry and seconds after I swallowed it alcohol sunk into my taste buds. It tasted like window cleaner. I dropped the bottle and adamantly drank water the rest of the night.

With bitter or ale I know what I'm getting, a unique tasting beverage which incorporates alcohol into the taste. With an alcopop I'm getting a temporary tase of sweet juice followed by the sterile taste of alcohol. Why would I do that to myself?

In short I dislike them if only for their misleading colours and initial flavours. If I'm going to drink alcohol I'll have a can of bitter or a local ale. The only alcopop I've remotely liked is Smirdnoff Ice and that's only because anything lemon flavoured is awesome.

I don't drink alcohol because I've never really acquired a taste. I've tried a sip of wine before (approximately 10mL) and felt sick after drinking it. I don't like the taste either. What can I say, alcohol isn't my thing.

Haha, at my end we'd say "No, I'm not 14". By 21 we're expected to be sophisticated drinkers in England. :p

But I do drink alcopops because I drink for the taste more than the alcohol content (I've only been drunk once) and I have a big sweet tooth! (And, as a result, five fillings and two root canals at the age of 21. o.o; )

You know some of us are allowed to drink at 18 etc.?

They're nice, not my first choice of drink by far, but if I friend offered one to me I wouldn't say no.

Due to the stupid name, I hope I never do.
Really? It's just a name, until you try one you will never know if you like it or not (if you're a drinker ofc)

I'm not 21 but being English that doesn't matter much. I'd say alcopops make up 90% of what I drink, the reason being that I find other drinks, such as beer to be disgusting.

Ew, no. I like to chew my beer [http://edmcdevitt.com/assets/images/Arrogant_Bastard.gif] and drink my liquor straight, thanks.

Also, sugary alcohol never fails to give me a headache. Even sweet wines.

Gay. :p

I usually drink cocktails, mixed drinks and flavored martinis. Sometimes a sweet wine after a meal. I've never had an alcopop but I'd imagine it's up my alley.

I like my alcohol like I like my men and my humor...

Dark and bitter.

And I'm not a 14 year old girl.

Seriously though, sweetened alcohols don't attempt to blend alcohol into the flavor and just try to cover it up. It tastes like children's cough syrup to me.

I was legally drinking since I was 18. Australia rules. Anyway. I started with Ruskies then went onto straight spirits. Still drink them when they are offered though. I will drink almost anything that is offered actually.

Wouldn't choose it over much but wouldn't turn it down if it was all there was.

It's so bitter and nasty. I'll drink Jack Daniel's straight up before I have a beer.

Look, if you can't handle straight up liquor, don't drink. If you just want to get drunk, stick to some abysmal dirt cheap light beer, but please for the love of Bacchus pretend you are some badass drinker. Sure, here's a 10:1 mix of orange juice to vodka, I'm gonna stick to my beloved double scotch on the rocks.
As for alcopops, I actually agree that they're pretty dangerous. The people drinking them tend to be underage, and thus have no idea how much is too much for them. Since it's pretty hard to gauge their alcohol content by taste, this poses quite a hazard. Don't get me wrong, I have no sympathy for anybody dying of alcohol poisoning, but there's still no reason why a product that is obviously marketed to the under 21 crowd should be sold.

No, because I'm not a 14-year-old girl (seriously, by my age, the girls have all stopped drinking that shit).

Those things will give you a fucking heart attack too.
