Be honest. This can include vandalism or anything as small as fixing typos.

If yes, why, and what do you do? How often? Those are optional, of course, but I'm just trying to get a sense of how often the gaming community participates. I'm asking here because the Gamespy and IGN forums tend to be pits of idiocy.

Hmmm... I'd like to really fuck up a wikipedia article..

If you get banned, does that mean you just can't edit articles anymore, or that you can't go to wikipedia ever again?

No, though recently I was browseing an article and found that someone had slipped the word "fuck" into a sentence. But I couldn't be bothered to edit it out.

Not really. The only use for Wikipedia is to see how many clicks it takes to get from one thing to some other thing that truly shouldn't be related in any way whatsoever.
I call it the wikipedia game. I once got from Celtic Mythology to Bran Flakes and then to the M16 rifle. Woho!

I don't trust my own knowledge enough.

My friend has though, and he got banned for it.

But he's a dick.

No. I might be fun to mess with something but eh, no. Too lazy to actually take the time to do that.

Generally, you can't edit. You're always able to view, though. Apparently, they feel that even idiots or bored people should have access to knowledge. :p

Well, now that I have that outta the way.. What would be an extremely controversial article or topic, and what can I do to fuck it up?

Everything controversial is locked, sadly. :( I dunno, though. I'd love to edit Sarah Palin's article.

Really, there's no need to edit it just to vandalize it.
The articles are all watched very closely by the groups that are related to the topic.

I can say this quite freely because even though I haven't edited anything false into an article, I know someone how has.
He wrote up this great big paragraph ob Eric the Red and completely falsified an entirely new adventure for him.
Two hours later, when he went to show my cousin, it was gone.
All that work of clever vandalism, gone.

So really, there's no point.
Most of what I read is true, anyway, so I don't even feel the need to correct their knowledge either.

Yes, but only when there are absolutely horrendous spelling and grammar errors in an article, then my OCD kicks in and I need to fix it or I'll die or something.

Yeah sometimes. Usually only correcting mild mistakes. Doesn't happen that often, but I do sometimes. I think I only vandalized it once. And it was at my school for something really stupid.

Nope, can't be bothered and I don't know how. I just like to read it...

...Although I was tempted to insert a quote from one of my History lecturer's describing the French philosopher Voltaire.

"Voltaire, make no mistake, the man was an honest to goodness prick" - Dr. Chris Storrs. Proffesor of History at Dundee University.

Eh, that depends. I do edit stuff like the Heroeswiki or the Lostpedia from time to time, but I don't think I've ever put something into the original wikipedia site.

I've gotten so many Ip addreses banned from editing wiki its not even funny anymore.
any time you saw the word satan randomly in the middle of a religous article theres a good chance it was me. I dont actually delete anything though. so its still informative.
