Haha one off the better polls I've seen lately. The way it is going this will turn into a unemployment thread instead of a hate my job thread in no time.

It may be due to the fact I am a massive optimist and look at things in comparison to their obtainable alternatives, i.e. 'if you think the glass is half-empty, kindly die of thirst', but I love my job.

Anyone who enjoys working to exist is an imbecile. It is a massive step backwards for humanity that we expend effort to buy fuel to expend effort to buy fuel ...... THe pond scum we evolved from would be really disappointed.
Shining example of the above. Don't enjoy existing? Nothing's keeping you from changing that.

I much preferred my previous position. I was an Audio-Visual Technician working the evening shift in the nursing building of a university.

I was

A) Hit on all the time by nursing students (and scored a couple times)
B) Was basically on call in case anything broke down, so until that time my boss okay my installing World of Warcraft on the computer. I was paid to play WoW.
C) Quite often the only way to test for a problem with any of the classroom systems was to go and sit in the classroom running the system until the problem presented itself. I would bring DVDs into work and use them to test the system, so i could basically go sit in a movie theatre-style auditorium for 2 hours watching any movie i wanted and i could claim i was "testing equipment for an issue".

Yeah it was about the perfect job.

I'm still in school, but I'm rather dreading going to work.

See, I have no real good expectations of it, both my parents hate, HATE there work and from what I've seen, working seems like a hard, boring and generally all around life wasting thing, it also doesn't help my dad told me I'll never find a job I like, and I'll just have to work for the money.

Plus, I don't think it'd be a very good worker, I don't get along with people, have no initiative and forget things easily, plus I kinda suck in school, so I don't think I'll get any better in 2-3 years of it...And yeah, I'm a nervous thing.

I work at two jobs. Only on the weekend though cause of my schooling. I like my job to a point. This would all depend on how many hours I have to work on the weekend. I have worked 42 hours one weekend last year. Sometimes I have to work 12-16 hours straight with 1 break. I am very happy.

Edit: The best amount work hours a week end is 25 hour.

I voted it's not perfect, but I don't mind my job so much.

The worst part about it really is how boring it can be sometimes. Sure that gives me time to read, play my DSi, listen to music, chat online, etc. I just like to be busy and it drives me nuts when I sit at a desk all day and the phone doesn't ring.

My job is decent. I teach kids to read, or at least, try to. While I like things like reading out loud (or anything that makes use of my voice), I do feel out of place, being a college student in an elementary school. It does help that it's the only job I've had where my boss doesn't think of me as an incompetent failure.

The hours aren't long enough for me to get tired of the job. Unfortunately, that means I don't get paid much, either.

It's not perfect but it is a job. I learned after working for awhile that the only way I could have a perfect job is if someone paid me to sit in bed all day and play WoW and watch TV.

I only work part time ... I should be either looking for another part time job or looking for a way back into school ... but anyway; I love my job. My boss is an ass but I'm pretty sure all bosses are like that by default

I could of liked it better if it wasn't so repetitive... that there is the key these days to a miserable existence. If your job is repetitive and lacking a sense of achievement then it really does crush the soul. Even hard labour jobs, the sort which we are taught this day and age to view as beneath us, give more sense of accomplishment then the vast majority of the jobs out there. Cause after you have finished building that road or constructing that house you can look at it and actually feel like you did something.

Yet when you hand in that bit of paper knowing the moment you sit back down there is yet another bit of identical paperwork you have to fill out... yeah. Seems our brains are not wired to get a sense of achievement, and with it a quick thrill, off that.

Yet...

We are told to look down our noses at people who actually do the harder jobs, the dirty jobs, even though they have a higher feeling of self-worth, on average, then we do. We need to reverse this outlook that labouring is a bad thing cause clearly pushing papers isn't making us feel good.

Rowe has way too much experience with this matter... his view on it is far greater then anyone else here I bet. Do hope though this is the whole thing of his speech, I'm shaped (yay Aus ISPs) so I can't get the damn thing to load right. May we all have a moment of peripéteia, balls on chin or not, over the issue of working.

I've had five jobs now, and at every single one of them is a boss that absolutely hates me (specifically me, but slightly hates everyone else) I can never figure out why. Currently, I work at a video rental place, and it's a sweet deal because I can rent movies and video games for free, but my boss and his boss are less than personable. So: awesome job, less-than-awesome employers.

I have moments when i truly, madly, deeply, despise my choice of empolyment. But then there are days, when i sit up, and realize, how many people get to do what i do? Truth be told, not many, and i look out onto the ocean, and think that i have the greatest job ever as i light up a smoke. Then after the smoke, i go back to the soul crushing maintenance work ahead.

Still in public education. People are all nice, but the "work" ... don't get me started.
