Yes.
My family has been using Windows since Windows 95 (skipping a few iterations between 98 and XP). I, personally, have used every version of Windows on my computers since Vista. My life has never taken a turn for the worse because of those decisions. I have most "send data to MS" settings turned off, but I don't do or put anything illegal on my computers anyway and anything sufficiently embarrassing, I don't put online.
