Depends. I finish almost all console games I buy but, handheld games that are bad don't get any attention from me.

Unless the game sucks horribly, I almost always finish it just for the story elements and such.
Case and Point an NWN module- I loved the first part, but hated the second part. It was called a dance with rogues or something like that. (it's not exactly safe for work, but it had an amazingly well written story for an adventure module with underlying... Adult themes. At least the first half did. Second half sucked so bad that I didn't even bother playing through it.)

I have a hard time finishing games I DO like. Spending time on games I'm not enjoying is out of the question.
I finished Fallout 3- HEY! BACK OFF WITH THAT CRUCIFIX! I found the combat repetitive and frustrating to to random landmines and random enemies with rocket launchers. But I did it. I made my character, I slogged through, dreaming of how long I'd be able to last against those fucking raiders with clean water. Then both choices ended with a shitty photo montage ending and so I didn't pick up the game for a year. Then I started a new character and once again experienced the repetitive combat and frustrating lack of stimpaks and getting killed over and over again. I reached a number of saves and then just said "Fuck it". Haven't picked up that frustrating piece of SHIT since.
When I was much younger I used to, cos sometimes I didn't know when I'd be able to afford a new game and so a bad game was better than no game, but nowadays I have no reason to subject myself to games that I don't like. The only real reason to do that is so you feel like you haven't wasted your money, but I would rather just accept that occasionally I will buy games that I don't end up liking.
I think you can judge a game without completing it, but you've got to give it a fair go. If I play a game for 2-3 hours and I've had no fun whatsoever, then unless I read online that there's a good reason to play on as the game gets loads better, then I don't see much point in continuing.

I'm currently having this problem with Dark Souls.
The first 17 hours were great- knuckle biting excitement kept me going- however, at this point the difficulty spikes are getting the best of me.
The thought of playing the game after a hard days work is a turn off when I'm tired and forced to focus to the extreme to survive. I'm a little over 20hrs into the game so far and sounds like I'm only about half done with the story, not sure if I'll finish this one any time soon.

I wish I could afford or find a decent psychologist. Because I seem to be a person who gets emotionally swayed by idiots to do things all of the time. Borderline obedient. I think it's more than OCD, I think it's self esteem. I care way too much what other people think of me, so much so that if I'm so much as pressured to play a video game, I can't seem to focus on doing whatever it is I want to do instead.
I think I could use having a little more self esteem, being a little more closed minded, and having a little more pride in what I like.

I definitely think I have OCD. I do think that I suffer from low self esteem, too, though. Having OCD is kind of depressing, but it could be worse, I could have something like schizophrenia, autism, or many other more debilitating disorders.
