Technically being underweight brings a big risk at also being anemic.wottabout said:I want to, but I weigh too little. For my height, I would be overweight at 135 pounds, which is also the minimum weight for my giving blood. I find it silly that I can only give blood if I am at an "unhealthy" weight, but those are the rules.

However, in the US, you can not give blood if you are a man who has ever had sex with another man, or if you are person regardless of gender who has ever had sex with a man who has had sex with another man.
So despite the fact that I am perfectly healthy and willing to donate blood, the fact that I have had sex with men who have had sex with other men disqualifies me from donating.
Why's that? Jehovah Witnesses? I know they have some rule about not mixing blood.RaNDM G said:My family freaks out every time I put the words "donate" and "blood" in the same sentence, so it's a no for me until I can move out of the house.
Like you, I'm bi, so I'm disqualified. And like you, I was encouraged to lie by snobbish people who worked the bank. And I refuse. 1) Because I'm not a liar, and 2) I all the men who've had sex with men and women who've had sex with men who've had sex with men refused to give blood as they are not allowed to do, then maybe they'd change this outdated and homophobic rule.Servallier said:trooper6 said:I used to give blood regularly.

I'm in a similar position, here in the UK, if you're a guy who has done ANYTHING with another guy then you're disallowed. It wouldn't have bothered me so much were it not for the fact that not only did the nurse seem really snobbish about it, but actually encouraged me to lie about why i couldn't give blood to my friends. They all already know i'm bi, so the "Oh yeah, go lie." line from here nearly made me throw the pen i filled out the questionnaire with at her >.>
