I would not consider myself a "stereotypical" Australian; I don't surf (I hate the beach), I hate all kinds of football, I'm not a great fan of AC/DC (I prefer the Smiths) and I can't remember the last time I said G'day. That said, despite all the loathing I feel for the very idea, I'm a patriot. My heart leaps at any recognition, no matter how small, paid to Australia by other countries. Bear with me; there is a point lurking nearby.
Up until recently, I loathed all Americans. I was kinda brought up that way; my parents had always hated what Americans were doing to the the world, and this was drilled into my head from an early age.
Then I started to wonder why I hated an entire society for no reason whatsoever. I came to the conclusion that, for the most part, it was my parents' fault. However there is another reason. And so I no longer hate individual Americans, however I still hate the idea of America.
The "concept" of America is something I just can't stand. America wields it's name like a sword; anyone dares to stand in their way will get chopped up, their pieces stomped on and shat on. This is not an ideal shared my all Americans, obviously, but just the name itself possesses a planet-sized ego, a sort of "we're-better-than-you" arrogance that simply radiates contempt for everyone else. Which brings me back to my first point.
Patriotism sucks. However, as embarassed as I am to admit it, I am human, and unbidden emotions spurred by lines on maps is simply a curse I have to deal with. America treats all other countries with uttter contempt, and I can't help but just hate it.
So, to answer your poll, I would have to say some of them, not because they're Americans, but because they're a**holes, which you're going to find in any country anyway. Hating a country isn't the same as hating everyone in it.
