Also, thanks for that. It sure does prompt discussion.

No, because I do not like JRPGs (that I have played.)

I do get shirty when people claim they hate "JRPGs" because it reflects an appalling narrowness of mind, a stereotypical set of preconceptions and an unreasoned bias against games the hater has never played and knows nothing about. Saying you hate JRPGs is like saying you hate TV shows, or like saying you hate "the anime genre". Anime isn't a genre, it's a fucking medium with genres in it. Likewise, people who claim to hate JRPGs are immediately classifying several subgenres of game together and denigrating them all equally based on an arbitrary assessment of an art style which is equally diverse. The blanket term "JRPG" includes traditional RPGs like Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest and so on, but also 3rd person action games (such as Zelda, Ys, Dark Cloud or, of you got to try it, Terranigma, which is the best 2D action RPG ever made), platformers (the Metroidvania games starting with Symphony of the Night ARE RPGs and, being made in Japan, that makes them JRPGs), turn based strategy games (Fire Emblem, Disgaea et al), real time strategy games (Grim Grimoire), scrolling beat-en-ups (Odin Sphere), Survival Horror (Parasite Eve 2) and games that just defy pigeonholing (I DARE you to call The World Ends With You a traditional JRPG and when you do it anyway just to be contrary, I call you a fool). If it's the art that bothers you then you have an EXTREMELY narrow mind, as it varies from the cartoony appeal of Disgaea to the washed out, unique style of Digital Devil Saga and the relatively hard realism of Front Mission. If you can't find something to like there then you're either not trying hard at all, or Yahtzee (who gets paid to hate stuff).

So basically, anyone who can make a blanket statement like "I hate JRPGs" is really just saying they're going to ignore a whole bunch of games because they can't be bothered opening their mind beyond blood, titties and guns (except Yahtzee again, because he has an image to maintain). That's fine, go right ahead and do that- just shut the fuck up about how you hate JRPGs because "they're all crap", because you're WRONG.

Bullying?
"bully noun a person who uses his or her strength or power to hurt or frighten others." (Oxfor Student's Dictionary 2nd ed.)
Are you afraid or hurt?
I just don't want to see my name above another person's comments again and again and again and [small]again and again and again and ...[/small]

I didn't get nearly enough sleep to deal with this thread... Eugh. Anyway, I like JRPGs just fine, but I like the Preview button better. It's an amazing gaming experience.

Some people genuinely haven't had good experiences with JRPGs. Some people have. Apparently this is enough to generate hatred on both sides. A bit of a gaming Civil War, eh?

A few, like Chrono Trigger, Xenogears and Valkyrie Profile 2 are amazing. Others are less so. I think it's more the steriotypes I hate, but I hate gaming steriotypes in ANY genre. JRPGs aren't any more or less special than any other genre.

I don't hate anything, or anyone..... I can dislike, but I guess that I say that because I still hold the word " hate" to it's original context of how overpowering and destructive it is :)

that all aside, to answer it directly... no.. I hold no disdain, or have the urge to debase anyone who enjoys JRPG's...even if the lines between male and female characters are fading away more and more with each game...

However, I DO get slightly annoyed with the over the top fan boys/girls who wet themselves at the mere mention of ( enter said property here) though to be fair, that goes for the personality types of any product, not limited to gaming. and even then the annoyance is easily brushed off.

I try to respect peoples opinions but thats not to say that I agree or even remotely understand them. I love JRPG's, and people that hate them confuse me.
