You see them pretty often; threads where people celebrate their 1000/2500/5000/etc.'s post...

- do you hate it when people do that? - or do you think that they deserve a little celebration?

What a convenient number you have...

No, but I think they should only really be done once. I did a 10k thread, but I won't be doing another unless I get to an especially fancy number.

Truly, post count doesn't mean anything.

So in celebration of your 1000th post, instead of making a thread about it, you're making a thread about people who make threads about it? Ok, I can dig it!

I don't mind it when the OP makes some effort to give it discussion value instead of saying "I have 1000 posts, throw me a party, you monkeys!" I always make sure to congratulate the OP while I'm at it too.

Which reminds me, congrats on 1000 posts.

I think 20000 would have been quite fancy.

OT: If someone gets to a large number like 10000, they should be able to show it off a bit. Not everyone can stick around on a forum for THAT long.

Its pretty meaningless now that everybody and there mum gets 5k posts in 6 months. Back thee good olde days when 10k was unthinkable, then maybe it was a bit more warranted.

No, I don't hate it. Actually, I kind of like them. They're jolly and make me forget all the evil in the world. :)

They feel like doing it, go for it.
'Ell, I'll try to help them make it if they ask.

Admittedly I prefer it if they add some Discussion value (Even if lacking one is fine according to the Guidelines), but I'm ok with it either way.

Although... Celebratory Threads of stuff like 100 Posts do make me feel... Odd.
Maybe it just doesn't seem like that much of an accomplishment to me, but I suppose they are fine as well, as the odd feeling is not a negative one, but a sort of "Confused" one.

So yeah... I'm A O-K with them!

*Reads Post Count*

Doing some research for your own perhaps?
Would explain why you don't contribute to your own Thread and all...

1. If you're having one when you make it to 1000, or to 5000. You don't deserve one. 2. "If Furby did it Ima do one" Is the reason we do them.

When done in a manner like yours (i.e: there's something else beyond just asking for asspats at having reached x posts), i have no problem with it :p

That said IF i ever make it to 10 000 posts, considering i lurk a lot more then i post, i admit i might just be tempted to make a thread about it (bound to get more replies then my usual ones anyways :\ Or maybe i should just make a thread about females and x related gaming topic, that one never fails).

I was hardly the first to do it, just so you know.
I know, you were at 20000 or some number like that? But it inspired people! [sub] but they started at much lower numbers[/sub]

If you don't like the topic, then don't bother going to the thread. Just ignore it.

Sorry for the bold speak there, but that's a very important point and one that I felt really needed to be put across. At the end of the day, if you don't like something, ignore it. Don't waste yours and everyone else's time complaining about it. That's the same reason I hate the Twilight and Halo Haters much more than the Twilight fangirls, among other things.

Anyway, I don't particularly mind the celebration threads. Haven't made one myself, of course, though I do plan to do something nice when I eventually reach 10,000 posts :D.

10,000, actually. I didn't do anything for 20 and 30, I don't think. I probably won't do anything for 40 either.

I think 1000 posts is okay. 100 posts is a bit low, considering how fast this forum moves.
Well you have a point there. But I wish you a happy 40000 thou!

I don't hate them but I don't care for them nor find them necessary. And they are all irrelevant because none of them could ever top NeonBob's milestone thread all the way back when.

I've never had to celebrate any of my 9 milestones and here I am, less then 1,000 away from 10,000. I don't have a problem with it for the most part as long as it has a decent reason. For example, if someone spends WAY too much time here and is capable of racking up 1,000 posts in a week or less, I don't want them making a "HEY LOOK! 1,000 POSTS! YAY ME!" thread. One for those big ones is fine, there shouldn't be one for every number ending in triple zeros.

I also believe that they should be done by the person who achieved the milestone. Those people have minds of their own, they don't need you making the thread for them.

I usually like them as they most of the time come with an interesting topic. I haven't made any myself, al of my significant numbers so far (100/1000/1337) were all used as posts in other threads.

And congrats on 1000 posts, it's obvious you wanted us to check yours out.
