Poll: Do You Have A Totem?

A totem is (traditionally, but maybe not strictly) an animal that someone or a group of people have a special or spiritual connection with. Certain traits are attributed to different animals, and so people may identify with or try to emulate them.

So, do any of you have a totem of any kind? I always used to think that mine was the cow - I'm pretty fat and like to eat and just chill, like they do. But there's also something going on with me and foxes, I think - even though my personality isn't like that attributed to them (clever and cunning tricksters) but I see them all the time. One ran into the road in front of my car on the way back from visiting my dad tonight. And I've always been very interested in the old Japanese myths about Kitsune*, shapechanging fox spirits.

So what is your totem?

Umm... this question fills me with unease. Possibly because I can't come up with a bloody answer. I really don't see myself as any animal... at least not one that I can think of at the moment.


But I rather like Coyotes... I live in Texas and they are rather funny canids.

I have a spiritual connection with my cat, i know what he's thinking.
If he isn't sleeping he wants food.
If he isn't sleeping and isn't eating the food he has, he wants better food.

I'd like to say something bad ass like an eagle or a wolf, but being realistic I'd have to say... probably an owl. I like solitude, am pretty smart, like the night hours, and love to attack helpless creatures who don't see me coming (in RL, this is usually me destroying people who make nonsensical arguments).

Meerkats! They shall froever be my totem because they're restless and full of energy, just like me. I can't keep still and neither can they! Admittedly I don't run to one location, stand up, look around then repeat the process somewhere slightly different but they're soooooo cool. Yup, totem it is.

I would say mine is a monkey, I love climbing stuff, I do parkour and anyone who has seen traceurs in action could relate our movements to those of a monkey or ape, my parkour philosophy involves reclaiming the abilities of monkeys but I won't go into it, I always have an escape route in my head, my friends call me a monkey and monkeys are totally awesome (minus the crap throwing, I don't do that).

Or it might be the cat, my parkour philosophy involves monkeys and cats, so monkey/cat.

I try to walk as quietly as possible like a cat, I walk along walls on all fours like a cat,. cats and monkeys are awesome.

I don't believe in any of that spiritual crap, these are just animals that I share attributes with.

A Tiki, sweet! Representations of the First Man of Polynesian myth, although yours depicts two figures. Maybe the other is Tane, god of forests and birds, who created Tiki.
