This question is some what related to the "Stonking Great Game Contest!" Since the rules explicitly state we must use flash, I would like to see how many escapist users have access to flash authoring tools. I included option 4 for completeness sake and most certainly don't encourage anyone to pirate this software. Also if you picked option 5 please tell us about it.

I have Adobe Flash CS4 for my PC, although I have no idea how to use it (I'm a Graphics Designer you see, so I know nothing of code, nor animation.)

Why are you asking? Are you planning on making a game?

Yup. I have the student edition of Macromedia Studio from a few years ago (legit, of course, I'm a student and bought it from Amazon), which includes Flash 8. Haven't got a clue how to use it, but never mind that.

I have flash at work, but I can't use it for personal projects. I was hoping to either learn about 3rd party alternatives, or convince the escapist to allow a wider range of authoring tools. I am planning on making a game and if nothing else I will get the 30 day trial and try to bash something together before it expires.

I had an older version of Flash, but I've recently got rid of it and I'm waiting on my shiny new professional version to be delivered, so I can put that and Flex together to produce games and animations, although I doubt I'll go in for the Stonking Great Game Contest.

What kind of school has macromedia, is it a college?
It's a specialty Technology secondary school & 6th form college. We have a crapload of Macs for some reason.

Sort of. I don't actually own Flash but thanks to my college I have access to all of the CS4 Suite both on school computers and online over Citrix.

Ahh, the many benefits of being a major in Web Graphic Design.

My friend gave me a portable version, so there's a good chance it's pirated.

Oh well, I can't even code on it anyway.

I do, but I'm not entering the contest. XD I'm not very good with it yet.

But I like to experiment and do little animations from time to time.

i choose option 4 butim not near good at it. just to create menus and move objects around.

i would like to learn flex, i've heard that is good. I already used gimp instead of photshop so that would be the next logical step. (not great at it either)

macromedia doesn't exist anymore, they got bought out by adobe several years ago and tons of schools have the adobe products

I wish I had flash, but even the student edition is expensive, and I can't find any legitimate free alternatives.

Don't have it myself.

But it's one of those absurdly over-priced programs that means one of tf 3 things usually:
1-company you work for/school you're at paid for it
2-you're making flash professionally and so can afford it
3-you pirated it.

3 is one of the rareish things where i can see piracy as fully allowable, as it's too expensive to buy to learn it due to the *insane* price. But you'd need a legal copy if you did it for a living...

I can fully see macromedia turning a blind eye to piracy to get people to learn it, then lean on people to buy it when they make something worth selling with it...

I have Adobe flash, so I guess yes?
I'm not entering the constest though as I am so slow at working on creative projects and the only things I can churn out on weekly basis are crazy thoughts and poems (so basically crazy thoughts).

If I had the time and an artist I would enter. I love flash but can only really code for it not overly great with the old animations.

Can make websites/menus/UIs/simple games fine with it, just if you want a cartoon man walking across the floor it's going to look shit.

I have macro 8 and CS4. :)

Edit: First game I ever made :D only one I can upload because photobucket wont let me upload .swf anymore and my FTP servers gone :( And please note, first game I made :p

[small]I'm aware of bugs, you have to use them for the last level, and there is level select if you click on my eyes (lots) at the main menu![/small]
