The concept of thread fatigue is similar to ballot fatigue:

"Voters (or in this case) Posters lose patience/exhaust their knowledge as they work their way down the ballot thread."

Simply put, do you have the patience/put in the effort to read through the whole/most of a thread?

Personally, it depends on how long the thread is. I won't read through a thread 6+ pages, I usually just skip to the last page and continue from there (although I sometimes do read it from the OP).

Only if its 3 pages, and if it interests me. Anymore then that and no I won't. I don't have that kinda time.

I always read the original post, and then I skim the rest of the thread to see if what I'm going to say has already been said. If it's more than 4 pages, though, I just skim the first couple of pages.

If a thread piques my interest, however, I'll probably read the whole thing.

If I intend to contribute, I tend to read it all to make sure I'm not repeating something someone else has said. I wont often bother if its 7 pages long though, I do as you do and read it backwards.

*quickly checks this thread....clicks 'post'*

I agree with you. If it takes too long...well then I probably won't read the whole thing. Furthermore if its something I'm not really that "Hugely Opinionated On" and just wanted to make a simple comment I might just make my comment and move. However if I'm wholeheartedly into the topic I'll read as much as possible to argue in a full method. However I will normally read Pages 1 and the last page. Then comment.

I'll read the majority of the thread if I find the subject interesting, I'd feel guilty ignoring well though out responses which people have taken the time to write, but as soon as excessive quotation boxes start to appear I get find it harder to follow the thread, get distracted and forget what I was reading.

I generally scan through the first two pages, after that its just repeats of what was already said

Sometimes I read the whole thread before I post, but if there's a few pages, I just read the first page and decide if I'll post at all. I doubt anyone reads the majority of my posts anyway, so if I accidentally say basically the same thing as some one else, pretty much no one will notice (myself included).

I usually get through 2 or so pages then skip to the last and make my comment. If it is only a 1 or 2 page thread then yes I will read it all. If it is interesting I might skim through it looking for interesting posts.

I generally go up to ten pages. Unless it's a topic that makes me really want to see what people have said, my attention dies after those ten.

I read the first page, and the last. I usually don't look at threads that are 4+ pages long, unless its very interesting, or it has a poll. I like polls. =D

If I'm very interested in the topic I will, if I'm not I only read up to 2 pages, after that I just make my comment/vote and leave, maybe wander back once in a while.

It depends. Sometimes I can, usually if it's short or has a sufficiently interesting debate going on, but if it's more than 5 pages long chances are I won't read it all.

From my expierence on this thread looked at the first 5 posts and said egh fuck it to the bottom. No offense but not the most interesting post or topic so i'm expecting similar answer all the way down. Then after that massive headache of skimming and scrolling time to add my 2 cents to the jar.

Yeah i do that all the time unless its a really interesting topic and i have a lot of time on my hands. Somtimes you find someone you just have to quote to make a joke, agree, question, or expand on.

In general, I only read the first and the last page before posting. Any more - only in the case I'm interested about the thread that much.
